So, I just bought my first Taco and I love it. It's a great truck with nice features (even on my Base model). I do have one question that maybe someone here can answer for me. When I use the usb port for a flash drive is there a limit to how much the port will read? I have probably around 10gb loaded onto the drive but when I go to search for a certain song the list stops at 255 and I know that there are well over 1000 songs on that thing. Any advice?
    Thanks

Ive had the same issue it will only load a couple hundered on mine you have to make folders and put them in each folder then go through the folders to have more then the limit. This is on my 2013 tacoma with out entune.

If the In-Dash unit in your Tacoma has Blue Tooth (and your music player also) just connect it through the Blue Tooth and you have access to the entire music library without having to create unnecessary folders.

    Just a thought.

    Woah!
I consider myself pretty tech savvy, but I never even thought of putting a thumb drive in the USB. I thought it was pretty much for plugging in an ipod or the likes! I am going to have to put together e thumb drive for when all else fails music. What is the largest drive it will recognize?

I use a 16G and can easily select from 2000+ songs. I can search by artists, albums songs and genre. When I purchased the Taco the service manager told me I could NOT uae a flash drive in there. So much for that.

What a moron. lol Sales people are stupid sometimes.

I do the same with a 16gb. I love it. Tried a 32 gb and it did not work. So I just keep 2 of the 16 gb ones. One is all techno and the other is all other music.

For those that can't find all their songs maybe its the format? If the music is in a format the unit can't read it will not display anything.

What I meant was if his In-Dash Stereo had Bluetooth connectivity and his Music Player (iPod Touch or similar) was also Bluetooth enabled then he wouldn't need to use the Flash Drive in the USB Port. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

Can anyone else confirm that the largest size is 16gb?

I'm at work, so I'll apologize for not quoting the posts above asking this (so much stuff is blocked here that I lose a ton of functionality on this site)

Anyway, I'm currently using a 32GB SanDisk Cruzer Fit in my 2012 Tacoma (non-Entune) and it works great. I love the fact that it's small enough that it doesn't get in the way of anything and I can basically leave it plugged in all the time.

    http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Cruze...F8&qid=1384890218&sr=8-9&keywords=flash+drive

Generally, if you're having issues reading larger drives, it's highly possible it's because of the way it has been formatted. I don't know off the top of my head how my 32GB drive is formatted (FAT, NTFS, exFAT, etc), but I'm pretty sure I didn't need to do anything special to it when I got it. I pretty much just deleted all the crap that came on it and loaded my music folders.

Also, as a side note: To those who mention about folders, a lot of MP3 players won't recognize folder structures that go more than 1 deep. I'm not sure if the Tacoma is the same, but just something to watch out for when you're organizing your tunes.

So is this why when I am using my phone for tunes (Android with Itunes dragged and dropped) I can't navigate songs? They must all be in one folder? I can't browse, I can only forward one song or back one. PITA.

You can have subfolders, but if you're using it a direct USB drive (which I don't think even works with newer Android phones?), then I believe you can only go 1 folder deep...

i.e. within the drive you can a bunch of folders, but you can't have folders within those folders.

Again, I'm not in my truck now to test any of this...just going on what I've learned in the past about the various protocols being used.

Must be formatted as a FAT file format.
255 is the maximum number of files per folder.

hmmm does the USB thumbdrive work similar to pluging my iphione in via USB? it would be nice to have it always plugged in and not have to mess with it.

BT for iphone doesnt let me use the fancy controls on the screen compared to USB connection so if a USB thumbdrive works similar to USB iphone then i'm going to do this soon.

I don't know how the iPhone works to give a definitive answer, but with a USB flash drive, you can navigate folders, and tracks within the folders from the head unit... Repeat and shuffle options available as well.

some more info that may apply :

    1. If a USB hub is plugged-in, two devices can be connected at a time. Even if a USB hub is used to connect more than two USB devices, only the first two connected devices will be recognized.
