hey TW. What do you guys think of my truck? What are some popular mods? I’m looking to keep it light budget wise. I drive a lot. I’ve put 11 thousand miles on it since last winter when I got it, no off-road mods. I’m most worried about preserving the bodywork and rust issues. Is there anything I can do now? I love talking about life and Tacoma’s id love to have a conversation in the comments!!

By one of those, are you meaning a Tacoma? Or a more daily friendly Tacoma?

A Tacoma just like that for a daily. I drive a Scion XB for a daily now but if it ever dies I’m going to look for a 5 lug 4 cyl 5 speed . Those little trucks run forever

Im glad to hear that! Its my lil sports truck and i love it to death. Im 400 miles from 70k and it seems like 150k in a few years wont be an issue. Its 12 miles one way to high school. and I run from Maine to NY every few weeks. Shes amazing to drive. Im sure if you find an older garaged old man truck you can find a steal, put tens of thousands of miles on it and sell it for what you paid.

Thats good to hear. Ill take a look if it continues while the engine is hot. The past week in the morning ive got my windows and window washer nozzles frozen shut. Just bought -20 fluid instead of my bug stuff from the summer.

I have the same truck in Barcelona red only with SR5 package and bought the truck new 5 years ago and very happy with performance and MPG's. I am glad I bought the stick shift like yours and too bad they quit producing them. It has never been back to dealer for anything and I change oil annually myself as I don't put that many miles on truck. I picked up some oil filters from the dealer this summer and 2 salesman tried to get me to trade as they had no used 2nd generations on the lot and were offering an excellent trade-in price but after trying a 3rd generation, I said no way. Could not get used to the AT and I expected better performance out of a V-6 as you rev it out to get any power. After a few years on mine, I put a set of 7" aluminum rims with BFG 245/60/15" tires and looks a lot better - the stock rims and tires look small. I picked that size as diameter is really close to the stock tires ( accurate Speedo) and they don't rub on anything underneath. I have bought the Unifilter upgrade for the secondary pump but not installed yet but will do shortly. Probably a good idea for you as well because if the factory foam filter disintegrates and damages pump, it would be costly to repair.

I had a 2010 version of your truck. I wish I’d found a way to keep it as a daily driver, it was perfect for that.

I always go for a penzoil synthetic change. I gotta squeeze that 4 cil for power too hahaha. I swear the 3rd gen had a 6 speed.

I never had any problems at all until I moved up here to Arkansas (from Texas). We have lots of steep, crooked roads and the little 4 banger really strained pulling the boat up some of them. Unfortunately I can’t get to the house without climbing a couple of the worst hills.

Boat ramps were never a problem. Even one temporary dirt ramp that had a sign 4WD RECOMMENDED was no problem.

I have a Tracker 16 foot Panfish now, it’s so much lighter you hardly know it’s there. I suspect the 4 cylinder would have pulled it up these hills just fine.

Welcome to the forum! My work truck is the reg cab version of yours, wish I had the access cab! Great truck tho, good mpg’s, and I can fit it in most parking garages w/ ladders on top!
