I think it comes down to how severe your off roading is.

Do you find yourself airing down to a very low psi? More specifically for rock crawling... If not, I think u r good to go with a 2 ply sidewall.

I do about 90% Highway and 10% Off-road... I chose to go with the SL rated tire in an OE size due to it only being 40lbs and it seemed a better fit for my requirements.

3 ply is great but at what cost in weight. Not a huge fan adding a lot of unsprung weight.

I ended up doing the 2021 Pro wheels ( saved 4 lb per corner) and went with the toyos (which r 3 lb heavier per tire compared to OE). So in the end I am still -1 lb per corner. I still average 21mpg combined.

Weight is a big reason I’m considering going to the Toyos. I air down to 16-20lbs when I’m off roading. Seem to be less rock crawling and more just jagged rocks.

I did this playing in the rocks this summer. Whatever it was put a gash in the wheel as well. But, the tire held air. I didn't even notice it until I was taking pictures of the sidewall tread for this thread a few pages back.

I'm not sure if it would have been better or worse with another tire. But, it didn't puncture, and that's enough for me.

Gotcha... I think u would be good man. If i r airing down for jagged terrain the majority of the time you will be using the tread surface. I say your good.. I took mine on some nasty nasty BLM land (sharp rocks and a shit show of a quasi trail) no issues to report.

Curious if anybody has tried these in an E rated 245/75R16. I'm planning to use them for an offroad trailer and eventually swap everything on the truck as well to match but want to stick as close as possible to a stock size.

No issues man... see pics. The tire will actually be slightly smaller. If different from stock wheels i would just check the offset. with OE wheels no issues.

Yeah all of this I knew
I was hoping to maybe see pictures of them. It would be all stock wheels for all seven tires.

Im running these in this size. Decided to try the E load this time since I got 2 unrepairable punctures on my stock tires. So far I like them, have driven about 600 miles on them so far. Minimal MPG loss in town and about the same on the hwy. I think they ride better over potholes/shitty CA roads than the stock P rated IMO. I’ll send you some pics if you want tomorrow

    This and that...
Well after driving myself mad over the past couple of days over keeping my month old C rated Duratracs at 255/75/17 or switch to the AT3 in 245/75/17, I've gone ahead and had Discount Tire bring them in to my store for an exchange. Whats been been driving me insane is the mixed info on the actual side wall construction vs load range since I'm about to take delivery of a new camper. Even my current Duratracs are labeled SL but their specs fall into C rating. I did the math and was 4-5,000 lbs from the max load on the C rated Duratracs. Can barely find anyone with C rated experiences with a camper, most have E rated. Was also told by Discount Tire that my Duratracs will be plenty. Back and forth in my head. I cant find anywhere that confirms actual sidewall thickness or layers. Most assume 2 or 3 layers but E rated are definitely stiffer. A tire could have three layers but not as thick as a two layer sidewall with out actual numbers. How much psi room is also a concern, not a good idea to get close to max but I don't know where I'll be with the C rated even given my load being under the tire's max. My math adds up but I guess I thinking better safe than sorry. I was stoked my Duratracs were 6lbs lighter than my previous Wildpeaks at 265/70/17. Fortunately, going to a 245 Toyo AT3 in an E rated is the same weight as my 265 Wildpeaks SL. Part of this is venting because of the timing and info available. If I pull the trigger with the exchange at Discount Tire I'll keep you posted on the experience. Any insights still appreciated.

    2669 x 4 = 10,676 - 4300 (Truck) - 900 (Camper) - 700 (~Load) = 4776lbs Spare

New shoes. Again. Discount Tire has been great to work with, especially since the purchase mistake was on me. Stoked to have these for the long haul. Better safe than sorry. 245/75/17 E-Rated.

Well dang! The sidewalls in your picture look extra beefy. Nice choice!

Yeah I’ve been reading about that. These LT have the thicker graphics on both sides with raised labels on the outside.

That might have just changed my mind. If I can make sure I can get that sidewall. Thx

Okay Fam I thought I would give an update.
So... it ended up being Tire Pressure... No $hit.. psi
So the OE tires are load rating 112 and the Toyo's are 111 (for the P265/70r16 P Metric). So I did the math based on the load charts for P metric and metric.
So the OE @ load rating 112 @ 30 psi (door placard) is the same as the Toyos @ load rating 111 @ 27 psi..

So I didn't go that low but I did end up setting the rear to 28 and the front to 29 psi. No vibrations at 60-65 mph anymore... So both the Toyota dealership and DT was setting the PSI to 36 which I think was causing some weird resonance thing happening at 60-65 mph.

In my research I found this website that does this calculation for u... Here is a few pics of the comparison

Wow, those look chunky. This is soooo irritating (that my LT265/76/16 sidewalls are basically non-existent in comparison).
