Thanks, that was a great read and I think clears up a lot of miss information that people still have!

Np, although it doesn't really explain the country of origin decisions. However, it doesn't seem that it matters on the construction since they clearly have 3 different AT3 variants with different construction/designs: P, LT, and imperial sizes for the hard core off road crew.

I find it interesting that they say the P sizes are not necessarily more puncture prone or otherwise substandard for off-road conditions compared to LT. I have to say that better wet traction on the P variant is appealing to me.

I was not entirely clear if the P sidewalls would be as strong for those people who air down regularly. That might be a benefit of the LT.

It would be the same info if you used a PSI calculator. Input stock tire size, load and PSI on the door jam. Then input new tire size info and you will get the PSI recommended.

Toyo also has the PSI chart on their website you can manually do the comparison to find the PSI they recommended but the calculator produces the same info.

Personally I run 30psi cold even though Toyo recommended 27psi

I have recently been told about the AT III's by a coworker. They weren't even on my radar ( oddly strange as the factory Open Country A30's never seem to wear and are great tires.) Now they are my top choice. Thanks for sharing this article, it helps me cement my decision for the P-metric variant. Now excuse me while I go and find a faster way to run the tread off these A30's.

That's a damn good read. Happy I went with the AT3. I'm running the eloads and have been happy with how they feel on the road so far. I expected worse, but once you get used to them they are fine and it doesn't feel like a harsh ride. Much more confident on the trails and even on roads not worrying as much about flats. And the 255/80 size coming in around 50lbs is the icing on the cake.

I had posted in a 3rd gen tire thread that I was a bit unhappy with some characteristics of the AT3's. Now, I have to eat some crow.

I went with the SL265/75r16 and find they are excellent for my needs. They are a bit loud, but I'm now ok with it due to their performance and handling. In a nutshell, after several thousand miles:
    • Rain performance has been excellent. Very, very pleased. Grip and hydroplane resistance have been awesome.
    • I've come to greatly appreciate how confident and planted they are in turns - whether long, high-speed sweeping turns, low-speed 90*, or sudden movements at speed. They don't squirm at all, and they feel like they're digging into the road surface.
    • The additional mass and diameter have had very little impact on driveability and mpg. One of my decision points was the 41lb per tire weight. The article above indicates we're not sacrificing strength or lifespan when going w/ the SL, and getting numerous benefits for a DD/casual offroad vehicle.
    • Had them in the deep, soft sand (and hard-packed sand) of the OBX a couple of times now, aired down to 20 psi. Driving several miles of beach each time, they've been superb.
    • I'm finding they don't really retain many pebbles or small rocks.
I've not had them in mud or snow yet. I try to avoid mud at all costs, and it's been summer here in central NC.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with these tires, and my experience corroborates the article linked above. Great tire, Toyo!

OMG I just installed these on my truck tonight after having Hankook Dynapros the last 8 years.

these are so quiet in the city and the highway in comparison. And they grip the road tight.

    love them so far!!!

Howdy folks, I just got some P265/70/17s installed, upsized from the stock second gen TRD sport size of P265/65/17.
I am having a heck of time deciding what psi to run. A few tire pressure calculators I tried said 26, the Toyo rep also said 26 when I called and asked. I have an ARB bumper, a fiberglass camper shell and a plywood platform setup in the back. This seems to be on the low side upon first glance. I read a few pages back in this thread and it seems like most of y'all are running a few psi above what's recommended from Toyo?

A large number of factors are going to account for your specific psi. Weight, wheelbase, tire rating....do the chalk test.

On the muddy roads the Toyo AT'3 shine, hill climbing 25-30 degree hill along the pipeline being constructed and every vehicle for the pipeline had chains, slick mud, and I climbed it with full traction control off. the biggest surprise was coming down I was scared at first but the braking ability of the Toyo's was pretty impressive they didn't slide. I had to use RPM going up 4-5000 all the way up sliding back and forth from side to side but they climbed! If they perform as well in the snow they will be the best tire I have ever had.

I did the chalk test and ended up around 30 so I guess I'll give that a try for a little while. Seems like it could be semi-accurate if y'all are running 33 and 34 with your LTs.
