Out of curiosity. What are you guys with the 285 in SL rating getting on mpg? I've tried searching but can't find anything.

I just had a set of 285/70/17 AT3s put on yesterday and after driving about 50 miles mine is showing 17.9 from 19.4 over the past few days. I had the AT2s for 20k miles and swapped them over to my old 99 4runner. Keep in mind my calibration is off by 2 mph at 55 and 65 so the in line calibration from RC should be in today and that may fix the computer. I'm on the KDMAX Pro XT tune so I didn't notice any power loss and the tires ar only 6 lbs heavier than my 265/70/AT2s. Hope this helps.

So after some miles today, topped off the tank, did some more driving. Since I kept my foot out of it and returned to my normal driving mode the gas mileage is steady at 18.6 for the 44 miles in town today. I was running it kinda hard trying out the new tires.

I got the 285/70r17 in load range e. Really liking the tire, they do ride a bit firm but damn do they feel solid in turns. For normal highway use what should these be aired to? guess I could just do the chalk test...

You're not supposed to go under 35 psi for LT-metric tires...
That said, if you extrapolate from 35-40 psi from the tire load charts, your new adjusted 'recommended psi' should be 32 psi.

Construction aside, LTs also have a bit more tread width and squared off shoulder than a comparable passenger tire.

My SL (P) rated 265/75/16 didn't wear very well over my 2 years of ownership.

I have 265/75/16 and they don’t look like they will ever get the miles on them that they are rated for 32k and they look well worn and are showing cracking of the rubber

I have 265/70/17s in the SL rating. There is no way they are going to get anywhere near the rated miles. This is actually a good thing for me since I realized I should have gone 285 and it was going to take forever to put 65k on them. I'll probably swap out at 30-35k and not feel like I'm wasting tread.

My AT2s are in perfect new condition with 20k miles on them and I moved them onto my 99 4Runner when I went AT3s in SL rated 285s. Toyos for the past 4 years on a few of my Toyotas and have never let me down so make sure your aligned good, proper air pressure and balanced correctly and these tires will last!

My truck came with Toyo Open Country A31 - Size: P245/75R16. They ride really nice, sound nice, I get good gas mileage, anywhere from 21-24MPG.

I live in New England and will need good all season Winter tires.
I'm looking at these extreme weather all season tires:
    1. Toyo Open Country A/T III - Size: 245/75R16
    2. Michelin Defender LTX M/S - Size: 245/75R16
On Toyo's site, they rate the MPG at 3.0 out of 5, I can't find my current tires to see how they rate.

What's your experience with the Toyo's? Will I get same MPG, is the road noise about the same? I like these due to the look but also like Michelin as I use those (different model) on the SUV.

Toyo’s have the 3 peak mountain rating which is great for snow. They will be a little noisier like most A/T’s. MPG’ can typically go down a bit.

Judging from what you have written I’d suggest the Michelins as the best all round tire. However, Nothing beats a dedicated snow & ice tire.

If you wanted to go for purely looks and light off roading with winter traction. You could go with the Toyo Open Country AT3’s in a 265/75R16. They will look great without any rubbing but will decrease MPG’s and be a little noisier.

Ultimately it depends on what you plan to use your truck for. Daily commuting? Off road much? Much winter snow & Ice? Long commute? Rugged off road looks? Or practical fuel sipping milage makers on the freeway is a must?

I went with the Toyo Open Country AT3’s one size up on my Sport. OEM was 265/65R17. One size up was 265/70R17.

Immediately loved the looks and feel. MPG’s went down 1MPG. Daily driver, light off roading and back country exploring. Many 6 hr trips to the cabin and a few long distance road trips so far. They balance nice and no vibrations up to 140 km/h on the highway. Good in the rain and snow so far. After one year still vey happy with them. Yes, again, a little noisier then the OEM highway tires my truck came with.

Hi, the only off roading I do is on back roads getting to a lake or pond but that is just a few times in the winter, it's just driving though not that crazy stuff you see here.... ;)

Mostly use it for hauling feed, equipment and just going back and forth to work (30 miles one way). I like the looks of the ATIII's a lot but I don't want the added noise and need good snow performance without dedicated tired (it's my first truck so I want to see how all seasons perform). I want the max MPG, 1 less is not a big deal but need to keep it above 20. I'm also looking at the Toyo Open Country HT IIs.

As I said, I'm going for MPG and snow quality. I'm looking at different sites to try to get a good overall idea of the 2 tires.

Toyota says the snow traction is the same on the two but with the Michelin's the MPG is better....

Can anybody tell me their review on an LT285 size of this tire? How's road noise, wet performance, etc.?
I have Cooper ST Maxxs now and they're a great tire but they're very heavy
