I can’t think of one long distance or across country trip I took that I couldn’t take 45 minutes every 300 miles to rest. Granted now I don’t pass a rest area, seems to coincide with my restroom need interval and kids desire to stretch legs. That’s at least a guaranteed 15 minute stop anyways at every 100-150 miles. I guess what I’m saying is if every rest area provided charge stations I wouldn’t have to change anything about my routine.

A rest area having a charging station does not equal the ability for you to make use of that charging station when you get there....

I'd hate to be dependent on a charging station, only when I get there to have three vehicles in front of me waiting for the two bays that have been installed.

In the near term, this is like having free airport lounge access with a premium credit card. What good is the free access if I have to wait outside the lounge for 30 minutes because it's "full"? At that point, I'd rather find an empty bar stool and pay for my drink. Just because the charging station is there, doesn't mean you can use it.

Total possibility. I have waited 1/2 hour for gas at a rest stop more than handful of times.

I heard a rumor, (I think was the Simpsons predicting the future again) that there is a new type of propulsion coming on line. It is powered by the owners sense of self satisfaction, and superiority. The will have stations where you can fill up your car on "Smuggies"

You get extra range by adopting the cause de jour and changing your profile pic.

Mass formation psychosis is real. History doesn't repeat itself, but, man it sure does rhyme.

Don't know what it's about it so I can't attest to the irony of it.

I still have not seen compelling evidence that an electric truck can handle offroading/overlanding. Range for EVs is a whole different story once you get off pavement, plus the additional weight of the batteries (especially if you have an extended range model). There is definitely a place for EVs in the market, but I am not convinced its the answer for all vehicles with the current state of tech. There might be an argument for hybrid trucks put cost benefit of hybrid is an interesting question when you compare like a Yaris to a Prius.

The other dirty secret that no one talks about with EVs is resale. I pay 45K for a new truck it still has resale value 10 years later. Nobody is gonna touch a 10 year old EV because it will cost more to replace the batteries and up date the tech than what its worth vs buying a new one.

Not really ironic at all. Income inequality reached its highest levels in American history (until recently) in the years just before the Great Depression. We're slightly above those levels right now.

No kidding. Never understood the mindest of switching to electric. It isn't like there is an abundance of electricity sitting around unused. If everyone switched to electric, the power grid would glow and our rates would increase. We end up back at the same spot. Unless someone wants to kick off the nuclear power again, to generate power we will still burn gas or coal. Only difference being that it will take more energy to build and operate our electric fleet.

Well, I don't think I've waited half an hour, but I've definitely waited 15-20 minutes on the Jersey side of the George in the past to fill my tank..

Think about how many vehicles "fuel" up at a rest stop. You'd need enough EV charging stations so that the same amount of cars can be fueled with gas. If a gas station has 10 pumps, and the average person takes 5 minutes to fuel, in a half hour, 60 people can have their tanks filled. Does that imply I need 60 EV charging stations to get the same throughput?

Agreed. Not to mention the range is terrible for anyone that wants to travel. I cant see stopping to recharge for hours while on a vacation numerous times. Not practical at all

At some point EV trucks will be all the rage. I am aware if this and fully expect it to take hold at some point in my life time.

At this point in my life I don't feel that EV truck will be an interest of mine for some simple reasons.

I enjoy the actual driving aspect of my truck. Same reason I prefer a manual over auto.

Triple digit top speeds and silly fast acceleration is not a contributing factor in what makes me tick.

I am very mechanically driven, so anything "auto" takes time for me to get comfortable with.

Examples, it has taken me a while to accept that power windows are here to stay, and I have them in my '17 Taco.
    Same with remote lock/unlocks.
Convenient? Yes, but mentally a part of me has died.

So, with EV trucks coming in the near future, so will changes in what kind of recreational things we do. Offroading and overlanding is a current thing that works really well with current gas powered trucks. The experience may very well be elevated, but in which ways, who knows at this point?

In a round about way, offroading and overlanding were still a thing when horses were the main source of "enhanced" ground transportation. On a much simpler platform, but it was there.

I have my reservations on how the EV trucks will perform in our current state of recreation, but will start to mentally prepare for it.

In the mean time we just need to let the infrastructure catch up to the expectations of an EV truck.

I can't wait for the full EV Tacoma to come out so we can see what the premium is price wise vs the equivalent gas version. If it's anything less than $10k I'd be shocked.

How the hell do you have snow in Richmond when it's 75 degrees in Chesapeake today?

    How's the 4runner inventory?

I didn't stop, just rode by. Didn't appear they had much of anything.
