Well, I was hoping my first post was going to be to be discussing my upcoming build, not asking about whether or not it sounds like I might need a new transmission. 2003 3.4L 4wd. automatic. 201,000 miles. Walking to my truck this morning I see fluid dripping (big puddle too), and it's transmission fluid. I keep spare in the truck, so added some to get me home (2 miles). The pan is on fine -- it's not leaking there. It'll coming from over the skid pate. I'm working so didn't get a chance to pull anything off yet to see exactly where. It shifted fine on the way home. Any chance I'm not going to need a new transmission? Like I said, it shifted fine. Just trying to prepare myself for the worst case scenario or see there's some hope. by the way, I changed the transmission fluid and filter 2000 miles ago.

It's probably just a line. There's several metal lines that connect to rubber hose, leading to the radiator/ tranny cooler. It's probably just leaking from one of those lines/hoses. Replace the leaking line and you should be good. Those lines run over the top of the skid plate to get to the radiator too. So leaking onto the skid plate could be caused by them.

Welcome to TW. Definitely look over the lines for the leak. Since the fluid and filter was done only 2000 miles ago, it's very possible that something wasn't tight enough and is now coming loose.

Thanks guys, but unfortunately it's not just a line. transmission went kaputt. Ouch. Guess I'll be waiting a bit to do the other upgrades. ;-)
