My 17 tranny would rev once in awhile . No lights on the dash but I told the dealer about it . They said there was a code stored in the computer which told them what flash to do . That was over a year ago and it hasn't happened since .

My problem is i contacted my local dealer and they acted like they've never heard of it. Trying to figure out if they are just playing dumb or something

That’s just lazy. Time to chat with the service manager...or find another dealership.

I agree, wanted to 100% make sure. I contacted the dealer i purchased the truck from about the issue. Awesome dealer but unfortunately 4 hrs from my house. Anybody have a recommendation on a Toyota dealer around southern Maine. Prime in Saco sucks

my dealer told me they were not aware of a TSB for it at first. Then I found a screenshot of it on my phone. They fixed it the next day. I’d have it printed off and ready to go wherever you decide to take it.

I have a 2017 SR5 that I bought last year with 8K miles and the tranny drives me crazy. Did this software upgrade cost you anything? it appears that the TSB-0134-16 Rev 1 implies that this service is not applicable to the warranty.

I was in a similar boat as you. I have a 2017 SR5 with 19,000 miles on it at the time and the dealership did the service free of charge.

I asked that same question a while back. Couldn’t find anything about any failures. I now have a 2020 and the transmission is great. Zero complaints.

I bought my truck used. If I call my local dealership with my vin, will they be able to tell me if this truck has had any of the TSB’s or recalls done?

I have a 6 month old 2020. Awful shifting. Is the TSB applicable to 2020’s? I have a shift sense pro and pedal commander trying to help but it’s still terrible.

You will have the latest software, so nothing for you.

I will give you some hard-won, honest advice: I would remove both those gizmos, and simply learn to drive the truck like it needs to be driven. Unlike all other vehicles with automatic transmissions, the Tacoma requires you to drive it, thoughtfully and purposely. I agree with everyone who says it shouldn’t be this way, but it is.

Once you figure out how to treat it, it will reward you with a good driving experience, but it doesn’t give it up right away.

I look forward to driving my Taco now, because of that control you have. It isn’t as boring as other autos, but yah sure WTF was Toyota thinking?

My 7 month old 2020 transmission works perfect making flawless up and down shifts as the road and speeds change. Works as good or better than most vehicles i've been in. Wasn't always that way when i had no miles the the truck.

Meh I’ve tried it all. Gizmos on. Gizmos off. I own a 5th Gen 4Runner, no issues. Two Porsches, no issues. Alfa Romeo Giulia, no issues. My Tacoma is possessed and hunts, this is a well known issue and I’m not alone. Perhaps I pampered it at first and it learned a certain way. So if that’s the case how do you “re-teach” it?. Just seems really unfortunate that a truck needs to be driven like a sports car in order to get it to shift within reason.
