Toyota would not authorize the TSB to the dealer. Trading the truck in this week. I’m out.

Did you actually talk to Toyota or to the same ahole dealer? Might be worth confirming w toyota , from what you said before it sounded like Toyota wants to help you out but your dealer does not.

They said they would try to put me in a manual. I really dont see that happening. At this point I just dont give shit. Two dealers, two days wasted. This just doesnt seem like a fight thats worth fighting for. Ill call corporate tomorrow and see. My golf R would tell me to shift constantly, hell at 25 MPH it was telling me to put it in 6th, so I get it. Trying to save fuel. But if Im told to "drive it more aggressively" like both dealers have said then whats the point of having the transmission programmed for fuel economy. For me to make it drive-able I have to hammer out of each corner.

Dont get me wrong. I love this truck. Everything about it with the exception of shifting into 6th as quickly as it can. At the second dealer my service rep was really cool to be honest. He said "dude I wouldve flashed it first thing, but its not up to me unfortunately" They have to report it to the Toyota Technical Center. So as long as the truck has forward momentum they find no issues with the vehicle. Their exact words are "Vehicle operating within factory specifications". They put 18 miles on it. He tried. He said it literally needs to fall flat on its face before we flash it.

This was the second dealer. Where I purchased it. They have master diagnostic techs there. I will confirm with corporate tomorrow. They did sound like the wanted to help but the dealer needs authorization from Toyota Technical Center which is basically corporate. They were the ones telling the Tech what to do and asking them to take screen shots.

We'll see tomorrow. Everyone there admitted it sucks. They seemed to all be in my corner. Except one old guy who said "Toyota perfected this transmission"

Best vehicle I ever owned was a manual tranny. 2003 Acura CL 6 spd. Manual's are great, unfortunately most wives don't like em. Hope they take care of you tomorrow, I think they will. Please keep us updated.

That’s awesome. I had an 01 CL and an 05 TL both Manuals. My wife drives a Miata so no worries on getting into a manual again. I just thought when you buy a truck you get an auto. It’s my first truck so lesson learned lol.

I’ll keep you posted. I don’t want to get rid of it but I’ve only owned it just over a month I believe so if I’m going to act I need to do it now

Mine heads straight there. My neighborhood is 30 mph so I spend a lot of time there at or around. I give it gas and it just boggs. You hear the exhaust note. Then you have to give it more throttle then is necessary to make it downshift. Then you’re at 50 instantly

I’m in same exact position. Love the truck. Tranny sucks. Frustrated me so I considered a full size truck (ford raptor). I’ll give the ov tune a chance. If not 2020 raptor it is.

Ov tune supposedly fixes it so I’m gonna give it a try. $700 bucks for tranny fix with 17hp and 25lbs torque sounds reasonable to me considering a dam intake and exhaust for the same price might add a few ponies.

It might have to be tuned with the air intake installed

I would do that but the problem is I would void the warranty and that is not a risk I’m willing to take at this stage in the game

I lied. My 01 CL was an auto. My bad. Long time ago lol. That tranny had its own set of issues too.

I am still a senior moderator at Acurazine. Damn 15 years now.

I’ve had three tsb’s installed at two different dealers in my area. I brought copies of the tsb’s showing my vin was listed. They installed them no questions asked. The tsb’s helped improve the driving experience but, I was happy with my 2016 from the beginning.

I’ll look and see if this even applies to my VIN. Figured they would’ve told me that.

Did you keep it or buy a second one? Shows you have a 2019.

Acurazine helped me a lot, diagnosed and replaced the main relay because of that site. I posted a whole step by step on there when I replaced my power steering pump which for me being a non mechanic was a big deal. Yeah, the only year they had the 6 spd in second gen was 2003 and they only made about 3500 of them. Would still have it but the fenders were starting to go as it was originally a back east (salty roads) car.

I kept the 2016 for 38 months. I loved that truck. The tsb’s improved the driving experience but, I thought it was fine from the start. I traded for a 2019 because, I wanted more features.

I love mine. Id love it more if it had an improved driving experience. You wouldnt hear anything from me if this wasnt the first thing I saw when I google Tacoma transmission.......from that point on it doesnt take much to see there is an inherent problem

Unfortunately I believe the transmission issue is the result of government cafe standards. I don’t believe Toyota would purposely design a transmission this way if they didn’t have to. I am surprised Toyota didn’t implement it better.

I coudnt agree more Jim. What rabbit holed me was seeing a TSB called "shift enhancement" Thats when I knew there was something bigger than what I was bitching about. The rep said Toyota is gun shy now doing anything with the ECU since the episodes of wide open throttle back in the day.

We'll see what happens this week. If I can get back into a manual I will. After driving my wifes Miata all day yesterday all I did was ask myself why I got an auto in the first place lol
