hey guys i have a quick question for you. My transmission is blown and i have to put a new one in. The Geico man told me that toyota only sells a new transmission in a new vehicle, and the best thing they can get me is a remanufactured one from toyota. Can this be true? or is the insurance guy just not wanting to dish out the money for a new one?

i hit a deer and took out the tranny cooler which caused all the fluid to drain. Then the body shop drove it with no fluid in it

sounds like the body shop is resposible for the replacement. if it were me i would insist on a new one or one that came out of a truck that had near the same amount of miles as yours, they are out there, but few and far between

I don't thing there would be anything wrong with a remanufactured transmission from Toyota. If a Toyota transmission is like GM and Ford it will come with a bulletproof warranty. If it were me I think I'd investigate the strength of the Toyota warranty and not worry about whether is was new.
