Using this as a bad example. You see the letters "cw"? those are your counterweights. The 1st generation of the 1grfe has 9 of those. The 2nd generation with the dual vvti has 5 of those. And what counter weights do is they balance the crankshaft in relation to the connection rods and pistons and other rotating assemblies, including the crankshaft itself.

 

Aaaahh. kk I gotcha now. I knew what the counterweights/ journal bearings were I'd just never heard of the term "5 counterweight crankshaft". Good thing you explained it cause I was thinking like "5 grams per counterweight?"

 

Now that the differences have been pointed out I'm glad I still have the single vvti 1gr haha. I mean the design looks a lil better IMO because the SC takes in the air towards the front of the truck instead of looping to the back.

FJ is about 300 lb heavier than the Taco.

 

Well, for some reason the FJ with the "old" engine is four-tenths slower to 60 mph and two-tenths slower in the 1/4 mile than a Tacoma. The Taco with its ancient drum brakes also stops 16 feet shorter from 70 mph.

EDIT: FJ also tested with Dunlops, so tires shouldn't cause this much of a difference.

 

2013 Tacomas have the DVVTI?

 

Nope.

 

I think they come with something better, an extra smog feature.
