    Hello,

Just purchased a new 23 Offroad. I have never owned a new vehicle and am starting to learn (late) about break in best practices for these vehicles. Picked truck up in Kansas and drove it back home to Oklahoma (about 315 miles).

    Owners Manuel stated that:

●For the first 200 miles (300 km): Avoid sudden stops.

●For the first 500 miles (800 km): Do not tow a trailer.

●For the first 1000 miles (1600 km): • Do not drive at extremely high speeds. • Avoid sudden acceleration. • Do not drive continuously in low gears. • Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.

First two parts aren’t an issue for me. I drive conservatively and don’t own a trailer. Third part (driving constantly at extended periods) worries me.

My trip back I primarily used cruise control and made one stop for about 15 minutes halfway. A lot of rolling hills so RPMS we’re varying, granted, but I have been researching this and see that a lot of people are saying not to use cruise control during this period? Should I be concerned given I used it primarily for my trip back home? Help ease my mind if this isn’t a big deal.

Not that big of a deal. Would have been ideal to have not used cruise, but you will be fine. I would continue to stick with the recommendations.

Half here say follow guidelines, the other half say drive it like stole it.

For piece of mind, I change my oil and filter at 450.

Since the hills varied the speed and strain on the engine you should be good. You want to avoid a constant even strain while you seat the rings and pistons.

Should be fine. I drove a little over 100 to go camping and back the night I got my 2019. Was pretty flat there and back. I definitely used the cruise control because I was really excited for it, it was my first new car too. Truck still runs great

Relax brother and worry about something that's worth worrying about, like not being able to watch the Chiefs- Dolphins game without signing up for a subscription.

Only abuse hurts Toyotas in break in. There is zero to worry about.

Don't overthink it, just follow the regularly factory scheduled maintenance and enjoy your truck and life.

Just like another recent poster you shared this advice with, it may be too late. :D

@Leaguer4 I'm just proud you even looked at the owners manual!

While it's a useful tool, don't let it cause panic on your part in this case. You're fine. Materials, fitments and lubricant's have come a long way from the required discipline of 60's vehicles!

Google 'bedding new brakes' and do that. Then you don't have to worry about the whole 'don't stop hard' stuff.

You're going to read all these threads about how bad the transmission is, and how its adaptive and learns based on driving style.

Best thing you can do to break this drivetrain in, is hookup a overweight trailer, and pull it up a long steep hill.

You need this thing to know you're the boss.

I just bought mine in November, also my new vehicle other than my wife's Santa Fe in 2017. I didn't worry about her's because she doesn't do any of those things anyway, lol. I was pretty strict about the break in on my truck because I had the flexibility to be since I work from home and mostly drive locally and I just kind of wanted to. That said, I don't think you have anything to worry about.
