I want to keep my truck for at least 400k miles, maybe more so I’m sticking with the factory recommended 5k interval.

Vehicles are getting way too expensive and too many safety gadgets, big brother watching, too much useless tech, etc. etc. to get another one

At this rate, I don't think I’ll be getting the 4th gen Tacoma, sad to say, so I’ll take proper care of this one by changing the oil & filter at 5K. And any kind of engine damage is way too expensive to repair now a days…

It’s my money, my truck, my choice

That's assuming 82.31785% of your driving is "normal" and 12.68215% is "severe" with average engine temp of 231.67 degrees though right? What about 78.198672541527% "normal" and 21.80132746% "severe" with average engine temp of 230.1345 degrees?

Depends on the dust. Alabama gneiss dust takes you to 9.5k, while say, Niagara Escarpment dolomite dust, might require a change at 4.4k. And don’t even get me started on that South Dakota sandstone. Those roads I won’t even drive.

    Agree with you 100%
I enjoy spoiling my truck, she treats me right and deserves TLC. If changing my oil and filter every 5K with synthetic gives her a leg up, even at a bare minimal capacity, she fudging deserves it!
Yes I love my truck, and have no problem spoiling her. Plan on driving her for 10 years plus anyways... For all of you busting the OPs balls, I honestly feel bad for your tacos, they deserve better, just saying.

If you do any extensive Idling you need 5k oil changes as per owners manual. Anything over one minute is extensive.

That’s why they tell you to drive your vehicle and not let it idle to warm it up. And we also have start\stop engine technology to curb idling at the stop light in other vehicle makes that are not build as well as TOYOTA engines are.

Keeping your engine cleaner by changing the oil is not wasting money.

Your money, your vehicle, your choice.

Change the oil every 5k, and all other maintenance items twice as often, wasting a lot of money, then it gets wrecked at 60k miles when someone rear ends you. Or it rusts out on you.

It’s a vehicle, just a tool. Don’t fall in love with it. It will only break your heart.

I never said anything about not going by the interval. I can afford one extra oil change in the life of the truck.

Im sorry, you forgot the pollen dust we get from cherry blossoms in spring. Need to account that in as well. Thats 3 months of driving in dusty conditions.

I still don't buy the 10k,15k oil change intervals. I'm doing 5k because I'm special. It's the gubbrrment and big brother pushing the longer intervals. Edmunds, car n driver, how stuff works, NY times, cars.com. They are promoting longer intervals for a reason.

There is NO real science to back up that 10k is just as good as 5k interval. If you really think letting the oil go twice as long will not degrade the oil/filter in any way, then I feel you must be high. Yes I have a tin foil hat.

Dude. It's the weekend. Take a step back from the computer, put your phone down, and breath. You're losing it.

Look, nobody has ever changed their minds about oil change intervals in any oil change thread on any forum since the beginning of the internet. People believe vaccines cause autism, GMOs are the devil, the earth is flat, homeopathy works, and that they need to change their oil twice as often as needed. No amount of logic, science, or research/studies will change that.

One advantage of the Japan-produced vehicles compared to the Tacoma. They are designed to run on Cherry Blossom pollen.

Holy shit balls Batman. Most city traffic lights are over one minute. So ever Toyota in the city is under severe duty? C’mon. Stop being so funny.
