Maybe. But there is still a break in recommendation right in the owners' manual:

    ■Breaking in your new Toyota
To extend the life of the vehicle, observing the following precautions is recommended:
●For the first 200 miles (300 km): Avoid sudden stops.
●For the first 500 miles (800 km): Do not tow a trailer.
    ●For the first 1000 miles (1600 km):
    • Do not drive at extremely high speeds.
    • Avoid sudden acceleration.
    • Do not drive continuously in low gears.
    • Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods

I know it's probably not just for the engine...but it's still just a peace of mind thing to change the oil early at least for me. My wallet will be a bit lighter, so be it.

We used to have an oil analysis machine at my shop so we could run our own samples. Even conventional oils tested fine well over 3000 miles, in dirty ass Diesel engines.

Money in your pocket duh. What? Do you only use a half gallon of the full gallon of milk you bought also because you're paranoid of the life of the milk? :tinfoilhat:

I do this also. For peace of mind. I can afford it. Plus it forces me to do tire rotations at this mileage also. I do the work myself.

If we use some of the people who responded to this @BSFord then why not just change it every 3k like old school. Just cheap insurance? But let's be honest, there is no way in hell that any company would encourage you to NOT change the oil unless they even knew it was a waste of resources.

OR new Toyota conspiracy is that the drain plug is only good for so many removals and returns else the transmission starts hunting gears.. LOL

good gracious do whatever works for your truck, driving style and peace of mind.

I know 10K is such BS. Heck even a Ram promaster goes 18K between oil changes. Why so soon Toyota?

I don't know if each engine is run on a dyno before it is installed. Doubt it, but new engines break in relatively quickly, that is the rings, but that's not all that's rubbing when they are new. The thing is they are filled with oil from the factory and thats the oil you get with your truck, so the particles from the first start up in are still in your engine. If you have ever done oil changes yourself on new vehicles and inspected the oil you will see the metal that comes out of them on the first oil change. The only vehicle I have seen clean oil for the first oil change is a 14 GT500.

These new oils go a long time, but for the first one I would do early. I doubt anyone would really want me to put some shavings in their engine? So why leave them in, get them out and then go longer on your oil changes. But its your truck so really whatever makes you sleep at night. Everyone is going to have their own opinion on this, so whatever makes you happy.

Mobil 1 runs $12 rebates several times a year, so you can do an oil change with a Toyota Filter for under $20.

One of the units of measure quoted in the owners manual.

    FTFY.

Mine shows quarts, liters, and imperial measures.

We have 2 commuter cars, 09 Corolla and a 09 Yaris. Both have 268,000, each. Synthetic since new and not a problem changing every 10K. Not even a smell after that many miles. Problem free. My truck will have the same schedule.

It's so Toyota only has to change the oil twice for the free 20k mile service. Saves $$.
