How do you know the oil is "cleaner"?

If your filter is in place, how could this be true?

Please do not refer to oil darkness or color as a response.

    Go.

My old MINI Cooper was at the dealership to replace the main seal. They drained the oil, replaced the seal, and put the old oil back in. I was disgusted!!! Thats like picking a booger, looking at it for a while, then just putting it back in your nose. Animals I tell ya!!!

What about it? One could ask you the same thing. What is your responsibility to the environment? Do you use a vehicle to get around? What type is it? How have you reduced your fossil fuel use?

I change my oil every 6 months as my Frontier manual calls for. I rarely hit the recommended miles. I drive less than 7500 miles a year. That is how I help the environment.

I don’t think proof is needed. I doubt they would assemble a truck and pop a motor in then pray it starts. In assembly of the motor each has to meet some type of quality standard. I know for a fact that’s how brand new motorcycles are assembled. I should look into it though I’m curious now what they do to insure the motor is sound.

Cranking one up for a function check and putting it on a dyno are two different things.
I don't know what they do for these engines, but I can't imagine each one going on a dyno. My guess would be a random one is selected at random times per shift to be dyno tested, all others just go down the line and get started up, gears checked and on the ready line.

I doubt they'd go through the trouble of all that setup for each and every engine. I'd be willing to bet that the first time it starts is when they drive it off the assembly line. If they designed it well and their assembly procedures are good (which Toyota is really really good at), there is no reason an engine wouldn't be ready to roll.

Yeah I guess in hindsight that would be a lot of trouble to go through.

Yeah. The electrical stuff is easy, but fuel and antifreeze are a mess. I'm sure it could be optimized, but Toyota is the type of company that would rather put that effort into just making sure they don't build a dud in the first place.

fuel injection has reduced gas wash which used to be a problem with a not so efficient carb. old oils didn't have the additives that clean inside the engine, newer oils don't sludge up like older oils did.new oils suspend contaminates better . add that to better materials, better machining and you can go longer between oil changes.

just like the wood stove you refer to.. you get a lot less ash with dry quality wood along with a lot more heat so a lot less cleaning out. use a not so quality wood and not properly seasoned wood it becomes less efficient (less heat) creates more ash and creosote in the stack..

That's a major waste. For an 18 gallon fill-up your ratio should be 5 gallons of 87, 4 gallons of 90, and 9 gallons of 93. Drive away enlightened and wave at the growing long line of angry peasants waiting to get their gas.

I wish my truck ran on rage. I would have a full tank by the time I got to work.

But 87 and 93 mixed makes 90. Did you account for that in the ratio?

No I did not. Also 87 and 93 are performance rankings, not volumetric measurements. Mixing them gets you 180 octane, the best octane there is.

87 octane mixed with 93 octane in equal parts yields 90 octane. I thought you were a scientist.:D

You see, I am training my truck. I add 1 cup of water with every gasoline fill-up for on 1 month. Then I increase it to 2 cups per fill-up, then 4 cups etc...
The truck doesn't even notice that I do this (I am a bit of a Ninja if I say so myself). This time next year, I will be filling up with (free!) water.

Reading what all the experts in this thread have to say, I am thinking I am going to extend this experiment to my oil too. 0W20 is practically water already. Just taste it, you'll know what I mean.
