He was in bearings in from the 60’s through the 90s. He was invited to Japan because he was a large dealer for SKF and FAG bearings and NSK bearings in Japan were hoping to woo him away from them. One of the perks was touring a Toyota engine plant in Japan. I recall he chalked up Toyota’s reliability not to design, or manufacturing tolerances, but to Quality Control. He told me at the time that Toyota made just as many fuck ups as anyone else, but they caught them before they were shipped out. That’s when the subject of dyno testing every single engine came up.

We are just sitting around bullshitting in this thread. It’s not informative. We all know what Toyota recommends, and are welcome to exceed their expectations. That was clear before OP asked the unnecessary question that brought everyone here.

Pretty cool. I'd love to find out how they do it now. Toyota is very much looked up to for their quality control expertise.

New cooler? Last new cooler I got was a terrible - it shifted funny whenever you got a beer out. Old coolers for the win!

It’s not hard to test an engine before it is put in the car. They just have a test booth with all the wiring harnesses and hoses waiting to be connected. I’m guessing they still run every engine.

My advice is have your engine tested with oil that was used in it. I have no idea how my 1st gen was cared for the first 139k. I did the first two oil changes after I got the truck at 10k with synthetic. Sent my oil off the Blackstone Labs and this was their response.

Nice!!!! That’s a full reset on this whole thread. Now we can go over it all again, and have Hammer refute everything (again) with wiki pages!

I’ll grab some beer and be right back.

Yeah, its definitely doable. And if they do find a dud, they don't have to remove it from a vehicle to correct it. Hmmm.
