New Truck/Tacoma owner suspension advice?

Hello guys I’m new to the Tacoma/truck scene I just bought a 2021 Trd off road 4x4 hoping to lift it soon and put some 33”s there’s a lot of choices I like the way kings look but I don’t plan on running or jumping but I do like the performance I seen they can do, also came across the 6112 bilstein look pretty good too I dunno why they don’t have one with resoirvors would be awesome, but I was wondering your opinions on if kings are worth the extra investment for mild crawling and running/over landing thanks in advance...

If you don't plan on running or jumping but you will maybe do some light crawling Kings are not the shocks for you. They are race shocks designed for soaking up the bumps and ruts and whoops and whatever else at speed. Thats where they really shine. You may want to look at something else. Off roading or not....Kings for the win at the mall though

I would suggest that you drive it for a while and get to know the vehicle and your actual use before going out and spending a lot of money on a lift. Your first investment should be in adequate armor and some sliders before going off road. The lift may be sexy, but protection and gaining off road driving skills are more important.

Hey man those mall speed bumps have gotten bigger over the years

 

Heard the factory front suspension couldn’t handle a front armor bumper without sagging to far though not sure what the spring are rated at anyone know?I only want the half bumper I seen everyone do, not sure the name of it though looks rad though

 

How do you like the 6112 so far?

 

I have had them for around 4 years . So far so good ! My 5100s started leaking after a few years ,front and rear .

 

Although I have switched out my OR OEM suspension for the TRD Pro, I did not experience any noticeable front sag with a 65lb front bumper with a 56lb steel engine skid with the stock coils and Bilstein's. I wouldn't probably want to add a winch and additional armor without making a change. The photos below are with the rig as stated and also a 70lb spare and a 35lb gear box on the roof rack, and a fully loaded bed for a multi-day backroad camping trip that was probably an additional 250lbs.

Again, I cannot reiterate more strongly to drive your new truck for a while before going out and spending a whole bunch of money and then finding out that you don't have the proper configuration for the type of driving you ultimately end up doing. The OR with some armor will get you a lot of places you never thought possible with a stock vehicle. Once you are more familiar with the truck, and also more comfortable driving it, you can make an intelligent choice for your build. There are also some wonderful deals out there for used gear, often at greatly reduced prices that are barely used. My steel DV8 Off Road Engine Skid plate cost me $50, it had never been installed and was still in it's original packaging. My TRD Pro suspension with 28k miles cost me $550.
the front DV8 Slimline bumper was $305. Once you have a better idea of what your needs are, if you have patience, you can score some great deals and have a very good build to boot.

 

I'd pay it off. It has a brand new suspension under it.

 

I wouldn’t say getting the kings (or any 2.5” remote resi shock brand with “clicker” adjustments) is over kill and unnecessary. You don’t have to bash hard to notice the improvement in ride quality and control. US roads are not super nice German roads so hitting pot holes , bumps, can be a daily thing where a nicely set up suspension will soak all that up. With clickers your can dial in the ride exactly how you want on road and off road , for towing or for high speed stuff ... Also you are doing it once and correctly now instead of later down the road ( instead of going through all the unnecessary stages of buying Bilstein 6100s then a use trd pro set up then finally doing it right and getting 2.5 remote resis).

 

Drive it stock for a while so you know the difference. All I did right away is add sliders, because I knew from experience that I was going to hit my rocker panels at some point and you really only need to make one mistake. After driving it a while and doing a lot of research I added King 2.5 RR 600lb coil-overs, King 2.5 RR rear shocks, ARB Dakar leaf springs, and 33" Dick Capek tall skinny mud terrains. After bashing my front a couple times, I added the TRD skid plate.

Of all the things I added, I think the King shocks are what made the least difference for the majority of my driving. They are really nice when going fast over rough terrain, but otherwise I don't notice them much (which could be a considered a good thing for daily driving). They are quite the work of art though and way beefier than the stock shocks. Considering I can rebuild them, they might last the life of the truck.

I have damaged both my front and rear bumpers, so next up are aluminum bumpers.

 

Ill be getting rid my Eibach set up real soon lol not bec they're bad. They are actually holding up really well and for the money its worth it.

 

Truck looks good are those stock tires? How much does the pro set lift it over stock I believe 1” right?

 

I’m in kinda in the same boat. Bought a used 2018 OR with stock suspension. Going to keep it stock for at least a year to see what my suspensions needs are.

This is my daily driver and I plan on hitting light trails every so often as well as some road trips.

As of right now I’m thinking Bilstein 6112 or 5100, or Eibach pro kit.

But we’ll see

 

I ordered these running boards because I wanted something to protect my new truck from door dings didn’t even think about rock sliders since I’m new to off roading, will these provide any protection it says they give you slider protection too or should I get something different? Looks like all sliders out there need to be mounted and or welded to the frame? Are there any out there that will mount to the body?
