    Hi guys,

First time poster but long time lurker. I just bought my truck in June and it’s developed an issue where it makes loud screeching sounds (I think it’s the brakes) for about the first 100 feet or so as I am driving out of my complex. Some days it is worse than other but it almost always makes some kind of sounds now. The thing is it only makes the sound for the first 100 feet so when I took it to the dealer, they could not replicate the issue. I started recording some videos with the issue and have uploaded a few to Vimeo (link below). What do you guys think it could be?

Are you using the brakes when it makes the noise? Does it do it in reverse with the brakes on?

There may be a small rock that has gotten between the rotor/pads, rotor/splash shield, rotor/caliper, etc.

Most of the video I am off the brakes. Really just at the end by the gate.

Yes ceramic brakes do that, they have to have some heat in them before they get quiet.

If it really annoys you just drag the brakes the first 50ft.

I mean I'm sure they're not your high content ceramic carbon F1 brakes but it wouldn't surprise me.

I've got ceramic brakes on my truck. From Toyota, made by Akebono for Toyota. They're not advertised as ceramic but they do have ceramic in them, if you go to the dealer they usually have at least two or three options of brake pads available for your truck the most expensive ones are supposed to be the 'ceramics'.

Noise is not some normal ceramic brake noise . My truck has never made a noise like that . You obviously having something warped or not lubed properly . I would take that video to the dealer and have them Start tearing stuff down . Starting with the basics .

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Had a similar issue with my wife's Avalon. Seems the rotors would "flash rust" overnight, and then with the first brake application in the morning they'd grind or squeal. Once the rust was scraped off by the pads they were fine from then on.
Maybe that's what you're dealing with.
Are you in a humid climate with heavy dew overnight?

When I took it to the dealer for a break in oil change I showed them the video but they said they couldn’t do anything if they couldn’t replicate it. They suggested I leave the truck there for a few days so they could drive joy cold but wouldn’t cover a rental until they were sure it was a warrantee issue. I think I plan to call Toyota today.

Thanks for the questions and recommendations. I do apply the parking brake overnight. I am located in San Diego CA.

I’ve heard of the flash rust thing but the noise seems super excessive.

Yea.. that's not normal on a new vehicle. Can't believe a dealer would give you push back on that.

I've had my truck since mid May, not a peep. Was it my imagination or was there a correlation between the sound and suspension travel?

My guess is brakes, but it’s hard to tell without hearing it first hand. They shouldn’t be making a giant racket unless they have rocks stuck in them or they rusted while sitting.

That's not right...Hell, I'm deaf and could hear that.

I'd pull the wheels and front calipers. Check for wear or rubbing.

Edit... I first said "pull rotors" I'd pull calipers and inspect.

yes, there does seem to be some correlation between the suspension travel and noise. Most/loudest is when I am actually using the brakes.

BTW, I’ve emailed Toyota with this info and a link to the videos to see if that motivates my dealer to take it in.

You said complex.....so guessing you live in an apartment? If so, does it have an irrigation system? Sounds like your truck might be getting wet from that (typically early in the morning) then flash rust forms on the rotors
