Dude just drop it off. They aren’t going to do anything unless you get a tech with his hands on the truck.

Update - dealer and Toyota got back. Taking it in tomorrow morning. Based on the videos, if they can’t replicate the noise when it is there, they will give me a loaner so they can keep it overnight.

Glad to see Toyota step up. The dealership service mgr or whomever made the call initially on your issue.. is a douchebag!

Update - took in the truck this morning and was provided a loaner. Dealer just called and said they did a full front and rear brake inspection and they found glazing on the rear drums. Dealer said Toyota advised to clean up the drums and pads to remove rust and should be good to go. Dealer said work is not covered under Toyota but the dealership would cover the work. Truck should be ready to pickup tomorrow.

given your climate and the amount of time you have owned the truck, perhaps the rust was a result of port delays, chip shortage related, etc...

Well, sweet outcome op. I can’t imagine what changed or happened to make the dealer more attentive to your issue because we all know TOYOTA does not read this forum so they had no part in changing the dealer’s attitude (wink, wink).

That said, the right thing for them to do would have been to take the vehicle in for a thorough inspection and inform the owner what was wrong and how much it would cost to make it right, because it is not covered under warranty.
However, since it came out how wrong it was handled, and what a horrible way it is to do business, they somehow managed to make it right by giving you a freebie!

Turns out, there is hope after all

    Cheers

The big question is did their fix take care of the problem. Inquiring minds want to know :)

I really hope so. Only time will tell but if the problem persists I will continue to document and take it to Toyota and the dealership.

Update - picked up the truck this morning and all seems good - no noise after spending the night at the dealer. The service advisor did mention he and the technician thought Toyota was going to step up and replace the brakes. I will be monitoring for any noise and definitely reaching out to Toyota if the problem persists for them to start replacing parts. I will keep you guys posted but for now, happy enough of a camper and it felt great to have my taco back after driving a loaner Rav 4 for a couple days.

They removed the “glaze” which means the resurfaced/ sanded down the brakes a bit. Brakes are noiseless so far. Before, the brakes still made some noise even after the first 200 feet of driving (for example, when I’d go through a drive through I’d hear a bit). Hope that was the only fix the truck needed but we will see.

Update - been driving the truck for a week now and I haven’t heard any noise. So happy to have my new truck feel/ sound new again. Might be a placebo but I feel like it brakes better too.

I’m happy you got it sorted out. Based on the diagnosis, I’m guessing it might have sorted itself out over time. I’ve had some pretty terrible noises coming out my brakes that sorted themselves out. It’s easy to cringe about the pain the truck is feeling, but it’s a truck after all. It’s tough, but it won’t outlive us.
