Had my TSB for ~400 miles now. Is it perfect? No. Is it 90% or more better? Definitely. If i didn’t know about it, I couldn’t tell it is there after the fix. Plus the price was right at $0.00. So far, I’m happy with it.

I feel bad for the folks that are still having issues. I guess we can’t all be winners.

So I picked up my truck tonight. I have the long bed and they replaced my leafs as well. I would say the whine is about 70% gone. Like other have said, I can still hear it because I know when to listen for it. Anybody else riding along wouldn't be able to tell anymore. With the radio turned up to only about 10, it's unnoticeable. Glad so many others have chimed in on their experience with the tsb. It gave me some realistic expectations. After reading a few, I knew what to expect and it was spot on so I wasn't disappointed that it's not completely gone. I'm just glad the whine is down to an acceptable level for me. It's something I can live with now.

I’m hoping all goes well. So far things have gone almost too well. I’m heading out shortly to get it.

OK, TW brethren, I just got my truck back. For background, my howling noise was the worst at 55mph. I could hear it over my radio at volume level 35. The noise at 55mph is now completely gone. However, I can hear the noise when lightly feathering the throttle at 58-59 only. With the radio on virtually any level I cannot hear it. The noise is not audible to my ears at any other speed. I’d say the noise is at least 75-85% muted compared to what I heard before. Obviously, I wish all of the noise was gone but this is a win as far as I’m concerned. I’ll take it and it’s nothing a set of Duratracs won’t completly fix. ;). If you haven’t had this done then you should. I think, at a minimum, most people have at least satisfactory results. My 16 Yukon XL makes a louder howl at 55 then this now does at 58-59. I’m pleased.

I also had the Entune TSB done and my radio is a different animal now. No more neurotic behavior. Another win.

Parts (weather stripping) on on order for the cross wind TSB with no ETA, but my dealer said it should be in in a week or two. To me that is an ETA...

Now all I have to do is get my front windshield replaced.

Man, that is good news! Glad it helped your truck so much! Did they end up replacing your leaf springs, too? I'm hoping after I add some foam and damper that mine will be as quiet as yours!

Mine is a long bed (Super Long for TSB) so they didn’t give me new leafs and did everything by the books. I’m still pleased. That damper will make a difference. The guy at the dealer said you need it.

Yeah, it sounds like the leafs alone don't do much for the howl (per a few people on here). The damper helped mine out quite a bit. Crazy that little chunk of metal and plastic can make such a difference.

Agreed. Sound resonance is a mystery at times but this is a good start. I think mine is livable for sure and no one else would notice it that wasn’t looking specially for it. I’m just over the top OCD.

In January, I had the dealer look into the noise when I had it in for the 5,000 mile service. They heard the noise, but the technician said it was the Frontrunner rack on top of the shell. If I wanted to have the dealer pursue it further, I would have to remove the rack and prove it to them the rack was not the source of the noise. I made a futile attempt to argue my case that this is a known problem. Unfortunately for me, the TSB came out in February, a month after my service appointment.

I just saw this thread today, so I made a copy of the TSB and went back to the dealer this afternoon. The service advisor I spoke to this time agreed the rack should not have to be removed in order to locate the noise. :bananadance: As a result, I will be setting up an appointment in the next few weeks. For those of you who have done the differential breather mod, did you disconnect the union and reinstall the OEM part before taking it in for the TSB?

Just got my TSB done and I’d say it is absolutely 90% gone. What remains is only audible to a trained ear. Very happy and glad Toyota did something about this

I cant speak for those guys, but generally speaking: you dont want to give them any excuse to void the warranty or deny the claim.

You literally just complained that they said your rack, which is completely unrelated to the noise, was the culprit and wouldn't look further. A modification, on the part that is causing the noise, is certainly going to give a douchebag dealership grounds to deny your claim---then you have to fight THAT battle.

    I'd remove it first.

I’d remove the rack as well just to remove any potential excuses. My dealer gave me no issues at all so I’m pleased. It sounds like some of these dealers are trying too hard to protect Toyota’s pocket book. I think printing off the TSB and asking them to place it in my file helped me. No grief whatsoever...

Thanks for chiming in. That's kind of what I was figuring, too. However, I just put it in a few weeks ago, so I'm not too thrilled about removing it. That being said, it will be totally worth removing if they are able to reduce the noise!

My dealer originally didn't do the front a arms noise tsb because they said it was my cap and prinsu...

My thrd service writer was having non of that bs though. He just straight applied the tsb fix. I would bounce between service writers if need be.
