I had the tsb done today. No difference than before in my opinion it still has the sound. I had the recall done on the rear diff a few months back also. Toyota needs to figure something out.

Make sure you call corporate and your dealer. Let them know the TSB doesn’t fix every rig. The more people that speak up the better!

I’m curious if the current production trucks now have these dynamic dampers and rear leafs or they have a different production fix and this is just a Band-Aid fix for the ones that have already been built.

Easy to check... see if the new trucks have a different part number spring. Any xhange requires a new part number.

I agree. Call them and don’t let them off the hook. They need to fix this. I’m pleased with mine.

Ok after a few times going up and down the 1000 feet between my house and Town I can safely say that while I can still hear the whine if I try really hard it is at least 90% gone. I'm very happy with the results of the TSB.

Now if I just had the $ to purchase the OV tune I think my truck would be running perfect. themn I could get back to the build.

Update for those interested, I finally had enough of the noise even after the TSB being done on the 8th. I called toyota corporate and explained to them my whole story "recall last year on the rear diff and the tsb this year." I now have a case number and a representative that has been assigned to me to resolve my issue. Fingers crossed that whatever is decided to be done will fix the problem. I will keep yall updated in hopes that it will help everyone else if they fix mine.

Just got this TSB done on Saturday. They gave me no trouble at the dealership. Took the truck for a test drive afterwards trying to duplicate the noise and all is silent. I'm happy.

I'm glad it fixed your problem. It didn't help mine. I hope they end up replacing my rear diff completely. Anything to fix the problem. I'm tired of the noise and took it above the dealerships head. Everyone can here it but the dealership, go figure!

Good luck! Corporate and Jim Lentz's office got me nowhere. I have an SR5 so the noise is considered normal for me though.

I did the TSB myself and then sound deadened the entire rear wall and floor. I also shoved egg crate foam in the c-pillars. I still have the howl, but I drive with all my windows down now (summer) so I don't notice it as much.

Just got mine done today, no real difference that I can tell. May be a bit quieter but definitely still there. Looks like they did everything but the spring assemblies. Not going to bother pursuing it further, it was like working with a bunch of toddlers just to get this far, and I'd rather not give them my truck again. I'll be out of the 36k warranty soon and plan on upgrading suspension in the future anyway. Worth a try I suppose. :notsure:

No big deal. I didn't have high hopes for it. Mine's not too loud, just something I noticed and can't un-notice if you know what I mean. Will be interesting to see if the noise continues after a lift, though that's still a ways out.

Good to hear it’s not too loud but, like you, once my ears were tuned in to the noise, I had to get it fixed. Mine is almost completely gone but it’s a bummer to hear that we are having mixed results like this. I almost wonder if some of the dealers are not getting the fix right, or maybe some trucks for whatever reason are not responding well.

Eh, it’s one nut per damper so pretty hard to screw it up ha The pad pillar does nothing and from people on here the springs alone don’t help either. I think some trucks are just worse than others.

I took my truck from 62-55mph 3 times this morning with the windows up and the radio off. I still have the howl between 61 to 58ish. Hard to hear it with the radio at 15 now, but I did do the Subaru tweeter mod. Mine seems to get louder the longer the trip is. Like the harmonics change as the metal heats up.

I have a bunch of sound deadener and egg crate foam back there which helped a bit more, but not a ton. I have been thinking of adding sound deadener to the two storage compartments behind the back seat. On the back side of those plastic storage compartments. It might help direct some of the noise back :notsure:

With summer here I always have my windows down so I don’t notice the howl much. I’m sure once winter hits again I will though ha

Heck, you’d be surprised what some dealers can screw up! Ha! Nah, some trucks seem to be louder than others. Mine is better but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about it coming back. Some have even dynamatted with no luck. I hope we get a real fix for everyone soon because the midsize competition will be heating up sooner than later so Toyota needs the quirks worked out.
