I guess GMC (or Chevy) hasn’t solved the issue either then. Which is interesting.

I’m guessing it’s all hit or miss with the howl. We “lucky” few get it and everyone else is fine.

We had an old Astro Van at work years ago and it howled like crazy at all speeds, was surprised it never broke.

Yeah and this really sort of puts the noise more towards a resonance issue. Then again, if we are all here 4 years from now with seized diffs we can admit we were off base a bit. I hope not. I think it’s resonance but it still sucks. I will add that my Yukon is extremely minor compared to what my Taco was.

My brand new 2018 DCLB SR5 has the whine. It's most noticeable when cruising or accelerating between 50-60 MPH, stops I when let off the accelerator. I scheduled a service appointment for next week. I didn't bother to test drive before purchasing because I had already driven another one previously. Thanks to all you folks I'm prepared to take on the dealer if necessary.

I just got the tsb in my 2018. It did NOT fix the problem. The two loudest spots pre-tsb are slightly quieter but still present. And now there are additional spots with the problem. All in all, I'd say it was better pre-tsb, but that's subjective. Either way, it's still howling.

That's discouraging. I'm wondering now if Toyota will ever have a real fix for the noise.

I've had mine folded down since day one. I guess I'll put them up to see if it's any less annoying.

It won't make a difference with the diff howl.

People with this diff howl problem-- I BEG you all to go into the dealer and report this problem and have fixes attempted. It's the only way we can help future taco buyers from ending up with the same problem and being pissed off at dropping $38k on a truck that sounds like there's a kazoo under it.

If it's not fixed in 3-4 attempts, lawyer up and persue the lemon law.

I'll call Toyota when I get back from my trip. Had the TSB done and a new diff installed, howl is still present.

I brought my DCLB Sport in this morning so they could hear the whine. Took the tech for a quick ride. He immiediately heard the whine. He took the truck to the service bay and 50 min later I’m being told that the TSB doesn’t cover the Sport. They need to talk with the manager, who was not in today, to see what they are going to do about it. Have to bring it back in next week. At least they documented it and are willing to look into fixing it or mitigating the noise.

    We’ll see how it goes...

Let us know if you get a 100% fix. Or if it's just less noisy.

If it makes noise- tell them you want it fixed, TSB or no TSB. You shouldn't have to settle for a brand new truck that makes funny noses.

Document. Take your own notes. You may need them in the future.

TSB or no TSB, you’re truck is making an abnormal noise so they need to fix it.

The only thing I could think they mean by that is the TSB doesn't include the Rear Springs on the Long Bed, the rest of the TSB should apply, you should call Toyota Corp and open a case.

Agreed. They can call this what they want and say the TSB does or doesn’t apply but they need to fix it. The more calls (and emails) to corporate the better. Maybe we will eventually get this fixed and behind us.
