I have gotten rid of a few that were terrible without going the LL route but the truly awful ones got LL’d because I refused to take a hit on something that bad. I agree that sometimes it is easier just to move on but I’ve never really been one to shy away from a fight. :). As I get older I just choose my fights a bit more wisely and less often. I also try to preserve the resources I’ve worked so hard for so I’m not taking a bath on a completely crap car. :)

I'm a year into my new ride and I have to say I dont miss my Tacoma one bit. I popped into the forum to see what's shakin, and to read up on the ranger in that other thread that seem to have been banned from, and I saw this thread was still kicking.

I'm not really surprised that people are still having issues and I'd be lying if I said I didn't get some satisfaction from it---knowing that I made the right call to dump it. The TSB with the dampers and new rear leafs came out a couple months after I traded it in. Sounds like its a 'Yota TSB though...that doesn't really fix anything assuming you can fight with a dealership to even have it done.

I feel for all of you guys with the howl though. I highly recommend cutting bait and switching to a new vehicle. They obviously aren't going to fix it.

Thanks, brother. I feel the same way. I honestly don’t have time to fight this and certainly could use the energy on something else. Heck, I bought this truck for a reason - it’s exactly what I wanted. My hope is that they get it either fixed or fixed enough so I can move on with life. I’d also like to get these Rays and Falkens mounted up! There’s nothing else out there that I want so I’m for getting this one patched up!

Yeah but you are LL over ten percent! Do you think it's the vehicles... or you? Seriously you would have to be just plain unlucky.
Even Jeeps and Jaguars are not 10% bad.
Funny story... everyone talks about how great the 4Runners are right? They are nice and I have owned three but one of them was absolutely the worst vehicle ever. After awhile it was laughable how many things were wrong with it. We joked about it at the dealer. They were good sports and traded me for an exact copy with zero problems lol.

I’ve often thought the same thing you are thinking and have implied BUT I promise you that if something bad can happy, for whatever reason, it happens to me with vehicles. Would you call an axle going out, transmission out, 2 fuel pumps out, AC out 3 times in 100 degree plus heat, and CV joints out twice in the first 5000 miles me? That happened to the first car I ever Lemon lawed. The others weren’t far behind. I guess if I had really low expectations it could be me. 1995 Plymouth Voyager.

Edit to change to 2 fuel pumps. The dealer did all the work for me. Corporate had no words. It was at around 8-9K miles and on a dealer rack when it was bought back. They said they had never seen any vehicle this bad ever.

And 3 GMs. Maybe I can chalk it up to poor buying choices? But, the best family vehicle we ever owned was our 01 Suburban. It had a Rubbermaid interior but geez that thing was like a tank.

I finally just lowered my expectations. I think it came with age and experience. My buddy bought his wife a new $126K Range Rover last year. It was in the shop over a dozen times! One of those was a whole new steering rack. So it has nothing to do with cost. Good luck with everything and hope you get a good one next time.

Thanks. It is hit and miss. British cars are just horrible. Truly. I have lots of friends that drive Rovers and they are trash. Same with Jaguar. I have an excellent Yukon XL and Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk in the garage next to a piece of crap Mazda CX-5 and a neurotic VW GTI, to be joined in the near future by its German cousin, a 911. I’ve owned my share of German cars but they’ve been engineered so well until they almost get a pass for their “special” characteristics. Lol.

My first brand new car was a 1988 VW Golf, was actually a really good car, it lasted till 1999 and 200k when a hit and run with a Crown Vic took it out.

So I thought I would post my experience here. I have a 2017 SR5 4x4 DCLB. The rear end has been whining since new, it now has about 16K on it. I mentioned it to my dealer at my 15K service and he ordered the parts for the TSB, some leaf springs and bushings or something. They put it all in and the mechanic drive it and said the whine is still there. My service advisor called me yesterday and asked if he could have it another day, he said they called corporate and they said to put a new rear end in it.
Hoping it makes things better, and not worse.

My howl just started lately with a little over 2000 miles. Comes and goes and isn't that loud yet.
Hardly can here it and the radio fixes it, go figure!

Wow, corporate just keeps turning my SR5 down. Non stop telling me it’s normal. I installed the TSB myself and the howl is still there for me as well. Keep us posted on the new rear end!

Resonance. Nothing specific makes the noise, it's everything put together that makes it.

2018 TRDs are included in the TSB. It was extended earlier this year to 2018’s.
