Awesome post, thank you. I'd sticky it if I had magical mod powers. Only thing better would have been pics....not that I don't believe you.

Male rhamphiophis rubropunctatus. Rear fang venomous. Most of the marks on the door glass are from him scent marking. Pics taken yesterday to prove to some idiot that they are not solely terrestrial. Idiot in question has probably only seen pictures of one and read that they will not climb.

Apologies if you were looking for pics of the tear down instead......

It's there already in a similar form. Instead of people listening to it, you get certain posters crying and whining about their theories and "symptoms" burying it. Then people can't find it.

TY @skiploder. The teardown and the comments from real experts--that's the money shots !

    FWIW.
    The vehicle in my signature.
Date of manufacture 11/17 at San Antonio.
    Date of purchase 12/30/17.
I get the sound at ~60 mph.
I am a delivery driver subcontractor.
The factory rear axle fluid will be changed out this weekend
for Red Line GL5 75W-85 this weekend at 11k vehicle miles.
    ~3.1 quarts.
    I will report the results.
What say the Amsoil 75W-90 crowd ?
    Is viscosity an issue ?

Won't make a difference as far as the sound goes.

Nope. Unless it can reduce vibration resonance... and it can't, so nope.

I'll be going the Amsoil route when the time comes. The Amsoil dealer is 5 mins from my work so I figure why not. I plan on keeping this truck for 10yrs minimum so I might as well go big ha I run Red Line in my 1st gen manual trans. I switched to it around 200k and I swear it made a difference shift wise. Could have been placebo, but that truck has gone into 1st gear easy ever since the change.

*For the record I dont expect Amsoil gear oil to reduce my rear diff noise. Its just solid all around fluid! ha

You'll more than likely have to climb higher than them or try a diff dealer. Canada has a different tsb number.

Do you know what the TSB number is for Canada? I'm planning to bring this up at my first service appointment and it seems that having this in hand would be helpful.

Has anyone tried talking to a Canadian dealer about this? If so, what was your experience?

I just noticed, the new spring numbers are again different from TSB 0171-16 for the rumble strip vibration. LOL. Toyota apparently has a tough time with engineering springs. Means some trucks might get two new sets of spring if they have already done the first TSB.

I have an Access cab with BOTH the vibration and the whine. I had the whine diagnosed 17,000 miles ago and have been monitoring for this damn fix thats been 18 months in the making. I hope they get their shit together! I figure I'll take it in before the 3/36 warranty is up and get a bunch of stuff done then.

In the other thread for howling a couple of TRD AC owners got their dealer to do the TSB. Not sure how they got them to since it’s for DCs only. Unfortunately I think they still had some noise after the TSB.

I have a DCLB 2018 SR5 so my dealer wont attempt to fix my howl. Maybe your dealer will!

FINALLY!!!!!!! After 3 sets of diff gears and 9 months of waiting Toyota finally got a fix for the rear end howl-whine between 50 and 65 mph. After the third set of gears my service dept. manager at Tuscaloosa Toyota actually tried putting sound deadening dynamat in the roof above the headliner and behind the rear seats. They also undercoated my truck. The result was same freaking noise. After doing all of that he found out that Toyota had actually released the TSB for this issue. That was last Monday. He got parts in yesterday (new leaf springs, and several dampers for the frame and cab mounts. Got it back today and for the first time I have a quiet drivetrain. Here is the TSB and work order. It actually works.
