Could someone that had the tsb done measure their rear hub to fender height? When I had the rumble strip tsb done on my ‘16 the new leafs they put in caused a not present before taco lean drivers side to the amount of nearly two inches. I want to get this done, but I don’t have the lean on my ‘17 and don’t want it either. Also, any input on the differences in the leafs would be helpful input. Before after measurements, thickness etc.

    Thanks in advance.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen it. Maybe someone will chime in or maybe even a service tech will chime in. I know a lot of guys have used dynamat and noico but I never thought to ask them if it drowned out the howling.

I have Noico 80mil sitting in my Amazon cart. I have been wondering if anyone has used it with positive results for drowning out the howl. If so I’ll install it sooner than later. I can’t stand how loud my howl is. I might even install the dampening pads while I’m in there. They are cheap and then I wouldn’t have to worry about the dealer screwing up my interior down the road ha

It’s worth a shot. I have been driving mine a lot the last few days and that howl is really irritating. But, I have not been able to get mine in due to dealing with issues with other cars, namely my daughter’s 16 Mazda CX-5. We have had so many recalls with that little SUV and check engine lights that have yet to go away. The dealer replaced the heater core today so maybe that will fix it. If not, I’m going to LL on the next visit.

If the TSB doesn't get extended by the time it warms up here then I'll go that route. Plus, I enjoy tinkering on my truck like most people on here. Even if it is for silly stuff like this ha

Hope you get that Mazda figured out! We didn't even look at those when my fiance was looking for a new SUV last year. She went with the CRV. Mid 30's mpg and so far just a map light replaced (knock on wood nothing more than that from here on out).

Thanks, bro. Yeah we all like to tinker on here. We have had Mazda’s for years and this one may be our last. We are disappointed. My son’s 16 Cherokee Trailhawk has been flawless. So much for imports are better. Our 16 Yukon XL has been a mixed bag but the 15 was LL’d. My Taco has been money absent the whine/howl. Best of luck to you.

They tried dynamat on the rear of my cab behind seats and on roof above the headliner. Didn’t help at all. The tsb silenced it about 90 %. The last set of gears they tried were/are terrible. They were loud from 50 mph to 60. They screamed at 55. I can hear them now only at 55. I think they are going to get me a whole rear end assembly. If I had the original noise on the first set of gears I am pretty sure that the tsb would have takeen care of it

Welp, looks like I won’t be sound dampening anything then ha The wait for the TSB continues.

So what does this "whine" actually sound like? I don't have the typical diff whine, but about once a week I'll get this whine the starts at very low speed on take off, then gets up to almost a whistle sound around 30mph or so. It did happen twice today though for some reason.

    That's something else.

For me the best way to hear it is to go about 55 then just coast. Sounds like a school bus or big truck gear noise. If I feather the throttle it goes away. I only get the noise on coast.

Anyone else seen your Taco-lean surface after having leafs replaced under this TSB? I don't have it today as the leaf pack has more spacing on the driver's side on my stock setup but have seen a couple of reports of the infamous taco lean creeping up when folks had this TSB performed...

This sounds like the whistle issue from front end. Think they just cover a couple of holes with tape to fix it

No I had that taken care of at my first service. It was more of a hum. Those plugs definitely fixed that issue. This is much higher pitched. Wish I could figure it out, been thinking about it a lot lately lol.
