Does it look like I could get the TSB with this?

no... the fluid will stick and not go anywhere, its pretty thick.

also look for a ring above it, its another good way to check for a leak, when the shaft turns, itll leave a perfect circle ring of residue

I have the leak but with the oil pan being so low and the seal being so high on the transmission do you think there would be a significant amount of fuel loss after about 10,000 miles ?

Just wanted to get an idea of how urgent of a fix it was, I'm changing my front u joint on Friday but the dealer won't get the seal in time for that, 2 to 3 weeks they say they have to ship it in. My truck is vibrating and squeaking like crazy so I have to do the u joint on Friday I know it would be easier to do both but I have to do the seal some other time. December is no good so January 2010 is more like it. The Toyota dealer in Jamaica sells only JDMs, they don't sell the Tacoma only the Hilux.

I have this prob, but out of warranty. Can I do it myself if I buy the seal? Will I have to replace the trans oil too? Thanks.

One could just replace the amount of oil leaked out. I'd drain & refill the transmission personally.

Well I changed my seal today, did it while doing an oil change. Updated part number : 90311-40034. About a 1/4 cup of transmission oil came out but I don't think it will be a problem so I didn't bother to refill. 1/4 cup = 1/8 quart and the transmission holds about 11 quarts. Took about 1hr.

I still have the leak after the TSB. Why is my Taco going in for the same repair twice again! 1st was rear differential leak at 31k miles, two dealerships. Now, the transmission extension housing seal twice.

Maybe they didn't replace it with the updated seal. It happened to the OP. Make sure they use part number : 90311-40034 and not 90311-40001.

Well, according to the service invoice, part# 90311-40034 is listed.

red to pink tranny fluid. So, it didn't resemble the color of the picture above, 1st post of this page. coffee color

^^I just replaced my seal today so I guess I'll have to keep an eye on it. Maybe it's just the photo, but dark brown (coffee) color transmission fluid usually indicates the fluid is burnt and thats not a good thing.

Tacoskim, thanks for the information on the TSB.
    Ikataco thanks for the photo!
I just found the same leak today while trying to find the drive-line shaft zerts. (I found no grease zerts by the way!)
I'll check it again next week then contact the local dealer for this TSB and a couple of others (speakers & ask about the suspension).

This is good to know...I noticed this leak on my '08 a couple of weeks ago while under the truck checking the propeller shaft. Looks like another trip to the dealership.
