We're adding two new thread features to the site later today.

The first came about when trying to explain to new users, countless times, how to create a new thread. Multiple clicks to get to the create thread screen is a terrible user experience.

So we're adding this little button on the navigation bar at the top. It's small, doesn't get in your way and let's you create a new thread no matter where you are on the site:
    upload_2015-10-6_12-41-4.jpg

The second feature will let you pick the forum to post in, while you're creating your thread. Nothing worse than typing out a thread, then realize you picked the wrong section to post it in.

I assume the "Select a Forum" has to be selected as a prerequisite to be able to successfully post the thread.

Correct. If you hit the new thread button while browsing a subforum or a thread, it'll already have that particular subforum chosen for you. If you hit it from the homepage or gallery, you'll have to pick something.

    I disagree.

I've experienced four things, just since lunch that were worse.

This whole group of posts right here ^^^^ is a thread (short for discussion thread). It is made up of several individual posts, like the one I'm writing now.

When I started this topic (see: the first post at the top), I was creating a thread.

The "Select a forum" choices should just be 2nd Gen or probably not 2nd Gen.
