YORK, Neb, (WATE) – An elderly California couple was arrested in Nebraska after police pulled them over and found 60 pounds of high-grade marijuana in their truck.

Patrick Jiron, 80, and his wife, Barbara, 83, told deputies they were on their way to Vermont with the marijuana and intended to give it away as Christmas gifts.

The York News-Times reports deputies with the York County Sheriff’s Department stopped the couple after they spotted their Toyota Tacoma crossing the center line and the driver failing to signal. When they approached the truck, deputies said they could smell the strong odor of raw marijuana.

A canine unit was called in and the dog alerted to the presence of a controlled substance, so deputies searched the vehicle and found the marijuana in boxes inside the bed of the truck.

The marijuana has an estimated street value of $336,000.

The Jirons are in the York County Jail on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and no drug tax stamp — both charges are felonies.

Does anyone else ever think after reading stories like this that you could make a killing in the drug trafficking trade because you have the good common sense to not get messed up while transporting hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of drugs decreasing the likelihood you'd get pulled over?

    uh... me neither.

I have heard of stories where people, transporting illegal substances, were speeding ( by a lot) or weaving or have a headlamp out etc...

I had a friend in high school who's father was a NJ state trooper. There was a stretch of Rt. 80 that ran out of NYC and into Penn. that was heavy with drug runners.
This guy pulled over some idiot in a Ryder van speeding, excessively, on the shoulder of the highway. That van had something like 600 or 800 lbs of weed in the back.

My uncle use to be a runner. Not very good at it.
Once, he was doing a dry run to test out a new boat and engine arrangement but ran out of fuel in the middle of the gulf and bought gas off a tanker using my grandmothers credit card. Got him on the LE watch list.
Next he was trying to outrun a intercept and dumped everything overboard. However, the idjit and his buddy took pictures of themselves loading the drugs on the boat that trip. He threw the camera overboard with the drugs. Drugs were weighted and sunk, camera was a waterproof tourist camera and floated. Strike one.
Next, he was trying to outrun an intercept but they got tired of him and had a helo shoot out his motors. Strike two.
I guess he finally came to the conclusion that he didnt want to have only one view of florida the rest of his life with a third strike. So, he gave up go fast boats and decided to just be a shitbag.
