Hello I am relatively new here. I decided to make a thread about my experience with VFtune from the day I ordered it. I have a 2017 Double Cab 4x4 M/T TRD Offroad. Today I ordered the Tactrix Open Port 2.0 https://www.tactrix.com/index.php?o...roduct_id=17&Itemid=53&redirected=1&Itemid=53

    The VF tuner software https://www.ovtuned.com/products/vf-tuner-software?variant=31683504996439

The VF tune pack for the 3.5 liter https://www.ovtuned.com/products/tacoma-3-5l-vf-tune-pack?variant=31816745943127

As far as I can discern this is all I/you need.

In about 10 minutes I received conformation from VF tune that I was in line, and
would receive my software in a few business days.

I received a link to instructions (could be much clearer, but hey they are software guys and not authors) I can understand the instructions but I do have a few questions. I expect they will be answered as I move forward. I will link what I find out here.

Tactrix confirmation showed up a bit later. They let me know that they are two guys working hard to make their business work, and will get my Openport II as quick as they can to me. (Fair enough)

I am very excited to get this system together.

    So you know about me.
I was a Sonar man on nuclear submarines, RV mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Toyota Salesman, Service Adviser, Investment Broker, Small Business Owner (went bankrupt wommmp wooommp woooooommmmpppp) and now I rent Heavy and Aerial equipment.

I have 2 daughters, a step daughter, custody of two nieces, and a little boy on the way.
I have a good wife, and a good life. I tell everyone I am blessed beyond my wildest dreams.

I will keep this thread updated, and hopefully be able to serve as a how to go from nothing to OV tuned for a new user like me.

    Thank you!

08-05-20 OVtune has thier cables in stock!

Tactrix just sent me shipment confirmation and a tracking number. Less than 24 hours and out the door. They showed over 2400 in stock.

Sub'd for the win. Also M/T but would like to know how it is for someone with kids who also doesn't have every weekend free to 'play' with things to get my truck operational again.

I wanted to explain why I decided to buy OVtune.
To start I am pretty sensitive to machines. I know some people are and some are not. I felt what I perceived as bad fuel, or light misfire. After more research decided it was detonation being handled by the knock sensor down in the rpm in second, and when in cruise slight uphill in 6th. I switched to premium fuel, ran seafoam, then chemtool injector cleaner.
I continued to research and saw OV talking about detonation. Studied more on intake variable runner length, port vs direct injection swap over points, and the change to atickson cycle from Otto cycle.

I think that these settings and the fueling map are set up to make the fuel economy higher, at the expense of drivability.

It just falls on its face into second, then pulls, then on its face into third, then comes on and pulls like crazy.

I want to have smooth power with no light switch like changes in the middle of each gear as it passes a certain rpm.

From what I understand the 2.0 tune pack will do what I want.

I wouldn't mind acktinson cycle in 6th if that can be done for economy.

So those are my goals. If I can make most of this happen, I will call it a win

Tactrix Openport II is out for delivery today. I should have it in hand this afternoon. VF tune software should allow me access on Monday or Tuesday if I understand their message correctly. None of this stuff is instantaneous, but so far pleasantly surprised at how quickly things are moving. I will be very happy if I am able to complete my first tuning flash next week. I expect the delay will be the VF Tunes from OV or that I may need to get a TSB flashed at the dealer before I use my ecu credits.

Tactrix Openport II delivered today. Well packaged, and it seems to be a high quality piece. 20200613_154932.jpg 20200613_155020.jpg 20200613_155027.jpg 20200613_155128.jpg

Just downloaded the OVtune setup utility to my windows 7 Toshiba laptop. It is a old laptop but it is 64 bit and works very well. I was missing a VCruntime140.dll file needed by OVtune to run. I had to download and reinstall that before I could get it to work.
I have received my system id and submitted it to support@ovtune.zendesk.com along with my name, order # and Truck description 2017 double cab, Trd Offroad 6 spd Manual Trans 4x4.

It says to expect 2-3 business days delay before I am able to go any further.

All in all I have about 1 hour of my time in this so far including ordering.
Not bad, and the instructions make sense if you are actually doing it as you are reading them. I am on page 4 of 5 in the second set. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0...TION_INSTRUCTIONS_V.1.pdf?6109941026687214203

OVtune responded immediately that my system ID was received and they will review and compare to my purchase number. Very professional way to handle it.

Next update when I get my software.

    Thank you for following along.

Thanks for taking the time to write this all out. As you mentioned earlier, the main threads for OVTune and VFTuner are...overwhelming. I'm looking forward to seeing how your experience goes as this purchase has been on my list for quite some time.

Good for you my friend and great thread you seem to have a good amount of knowledge and maybe can dumb it down for less inclined folks like myself.
