Don't drink the 3rd gen kool-aid man. All trucks have quirks in the first couple of years of production. In a couple years the people on here will praise the 3rd gen like they do the 2 gen now. And the 4th Gen will be the evil envader.

How many miles on that garage queen again?

Btw, ran my 19 year old garage queen for about 200 miles today, it's the epitome of reliability at 80k miles. ;)

I've been daily driving mine since I'm about to switch my insurance policy. I racked up 2,400 miles since I got it so far. A garage queen not so much :D:thumbsup:

Hey everyone, going to try and respond to all of you.

I have a TRD Sport. I added an ARB Air Locker to the rear diff with the factory 3:90 ring and pinion. My tires are 295/70/17.

I shredded the factory ring and pinion. The sport seems to be plagued with a similar axle to the 2nd e-locker rear. 8" may prove to be to small of an axle for bumping up obstacles every weekend.

So, my current plan is the truck is currently being regeared to Nitro 4:88's and I'm adding another ARB Air Locker to the front diff. This should allow me to get up the same size obstacles with less effort. At least that's the concept.

I'm really good about stopping once the truck has hopped on the obstacle once or twice. I believe that this was just bound to happen. I do plan to "bump" less, being broken this long sucks. Definitely researching axle swap options now.

    Mostly stuff I built.
Cryogenic treating your ring and pinion can really prolong their life if you wheel hard on a regular basis. I do this on all of my gear sets in my crawler and it had really stretched my gear life.

You might find an 8.75" out of an OR to swap in. It would be the easiest swap out there and the larger ring gear and pinion shaft diameter might be just what you need. Beyond that you might look into a "Lefty" case swap like the FJ crowd does and throw some more reduction to your setup.

Abuse anything long enough and it’s going to brake.

Old thread Jake brought up, same topic, for anyone that cares there’s plenty of 1st and 2nd Gen rear diffs failing right on this forum and not even wheeling, do a search.
