New Volant CAI for the 2.7ltr

my guess will be low end power loss with a redline power gain

 

thats correct I have been holding off on all the intakes for the 2.7's cause they have all been exposed to the engine heat with just a metal shield. This one pulls air from the fender well just like the stock one. I know that these could cause a loss in bottom end power on the 4.0's although I have heard that they (with enclosed box) do help a little bit with throttle response on the 4 bangers. As long as you have a header to help with flow on the exhaust end.

 

i have heard the opposite. I heard that with the 4 bangers, getting to large of a diameter intake tube slows the air flow. I have talked to plenty of people and some people have done a DIY (CAI) and have experience low end loss.

I guess we will just wait and see what your "buttdyno" experiences.

 

Ill see how it is. If I loose power then I throw the stock one back on and sell the volant on egay

 

Installed the volant today and immediatly removed it. The tube they sent me did not have a plugin for the VSV (plugs into the intake resonator). All sorts of engine lights thrown. I will speak with Volant on monday to see what the deal is-Bummer

 

kinda hoping they dont. Thinking I wasted my money on it anyway being that the stock is really good to begin with. Either way if they dont have a fix then they will refund me the full amount.

 

I had my truck re-geared with 4.56 Nitro's from ECG. Got all my power back plus some so Im happy

 

Sending it back for a full refund. big relief ill use that money to jump in on the ATO skid plate buy.

No matter what the critics say my yot can use all the help it can get. I live in central california, im lookin for a volant ram air cai for the 2nd gen 2.7 tacoma. For some reason they arent CARB approved so i cant order a new one online. Anyone know where i can get a used one? Ive searched and nada..

 

I did the drop in afe pro dry, and 2ndary filter removal mod. nice little throttle reponse improvent and some suprisingly noticable power increases! but from your guys's experiences the true cold air intakes and volant ram air intakes will not further improve power?
