If you plan to lift then an SR5 is perfectly fine. It might be a waste to buy TRD if the immediate plan is to replace the suspension.

Look for a new one. If you're dropping $40k, you might as well get a new one.

I bought my 17 sr5 4x4 last November with 72xxx miles on it . It doesn't have all the bells and whistles on it but I've been working at replacing suspension and doing its maintenance and Its probably all I'll ever need. I did get it certified pre-owned at a toyota dealership and showed all the oil changes and brake rotors being turned . And it had 2 owners besides me . I asked why they had traded it in and they told me they wanted something bigger.

I bought my 19 OR just before the pandemic hit and before new and used prices went nuts. I bought a low mileage truck that still had a solid chunk of factory warranty coverage left and saved about $6,000 over buying a new one. I'll take $6K staying in my bank account any day!

I’m sorry but that is not true at all. I’ve worked for dealers that had 60 day turn policies for pre-owned. If it didn’t sell it went straight to auction, and we are talking front line ready vehicles that we spent $800-3,000 on in service to bring it up to spec. Also look at all the rental fleets that don’t sell their cars when they take them out of service. They’re all sent to auction. Lease returns that aren’t bought out are also sent to auction. Some of those may have a few issues but by no means are lemons.

Many short term owned vehicles were traded because they didn't fit the owners life, a new baby and a Miata for example. Other folks just have perpetual "shiny object syndrome" and always want something new.

The original owner of my truck, 2 years old and 12K miles, traded in a 2 year old GTI for the Tacoma. o_O

I got a great deal (pre C19) as the truck had been on the lot for 3 weeks and the dealer had a 4 week sell it or auction it policy. At that time there were hundreds of trucks in inventory - I guess there wasn't much demand for Orange manual shift Access Cabs. ;)

That was the case with my 2022 that had 2500 miles on it when I bought it. Guy sold his full size truck to the dealer and ordered this Tacoma. He picked it up in September and by the end of November he sold it to the dealer. Said he loved the truck, but just didn't fit him. Ironically he bought the full size truck he sold to them back o_O

Worked out for me though. I was looking for the ever so rare 6 speed manual and this one had super low miles. How it sat on the lot for 4 months boggles my mind. I thought the manuals were sought after. My 2021 I traded in is still on the lot almost 2 months later. Maybe people in that county don't like "foreign" trucks. :notsure:

It is funny to think back to pre C19 when there were hundreds of trucks in inventory, the dealer I got mine from had them parked like a county fair in a grass lot behind the dealership.

Well the manual sport I found I is hard to find but the distance (18hr) makes it a tough decision.
I found the same truck in sr5 trim at a Toyota dealer with 44 miles. Not certified,ya!
I ask them why and said another Toyota sold it at auction and they bought.Said they could do there “intensive” inspection and it would be certified for 1500.

There are no manual transmission SR5 models only Sport, Off Road & Pro.

If you could get a Toyota Certified Pre-Owned warranty for $1500 that might be a good deal, it gives you a 7 year/100,000 mile power train warranty.

They still sell near msrp, if you can find a dealership that is willing to sell at msrp because they move a lot of volume therefor they get priority and receive more vehicles at better cost than other dealerhips, ex a dealer that moves 200 vehicles a month vs 50. They want to keep moving 200 to keep there status, deals, good margins. That is when you can typically get at msrp if you can negotiate it, send some quotes back and forth between dealers. Interest rates generally good, a new sport could be 36-38k, Off Road 39-41k, etc. The pro is likely the only one that has better used value right now.

New loans are lower interest rates vs. used rates and in the long term often are less overall.
