Ewww who would drive a vehicle that uses keys? That's what old people do.

My sr5 v6 has an actual key. I don't have to get a faraday cage my key fob... and not leave my actual key on the driver floorboard.
Been doing the account for 20 years doing the exact same thing, it was shitty day to begin with.

Lol at those who think the low tech vehicles are the HARDER ones to steal.

I can guarantee a SR is still easier to steal than a higher trims.

I remember in the good old days, you would get a keyed VW ignition lock cylinder, unplug the harness from the back of the one in the car and plug it into yours. It took 5 seconds.

Does the steering column lock on a PTS Tacoma. All Tacomas can easily be shifted into nuetral and pushed or pulled anywhere.

Just be glad the trucks don't use fingerprint authentication (yet). You'll wake up one morning and find both your truck and your thumb missing.

It's an arms race. It always has been. If someone wants to steal something badly enough, they will find a way. That's the unfortunate reality of what insurance is for.

When I worked for Dominos pizza in the late 80's. We could start the truck with a dime (10 cents). The truck was stolen more than 9 times that I know of.;)

I believe California holds the top national average of all vehicle theft combined. Both states have large populations, large volumes of the most frequently stolen vehicles Chevrolet and Ford pickups, along with Honda sedans. Both of those states are border states, if people are stealing vehicles to sell ouside of the US, it's probably easier to move them out via Mexico.

Nope. Aside from just towing vehicles away, I've yet to hear of attacks against the key + microchip combo.

My sr5 v6 has an actual key. I don't have to get a faraday cage. I have had both of my Tacomas and my Honda stolen here in the greater Los Angeles. All had physical keys.

Knew a few guys when I was younger that we will say we’re less then trustworthy. A coat hanger and a screw driver is all they needed to steal any vehicle they wanted. I feel confident that people like them are still around so these guys that say mines a stick and needs a key are deluding themselves.

That seemed like the best combination no tech and low tech, but manufactures have scrapped that for the PTS. The thrill of PTS wears off the 2nd time you start the vehicle.

I prefer the keythat had the chip embedded in the blade of the key, not in a srperate fob or those flip keys. Honda keys that have the chip in the plastic head of the key are prone to breakage as well.
