    i keep a manual transmission brz in the garage just so it looks like i drive stick. it scares off potential thieves from even attempting to steal the tacoma!

    Yeah the cost isn't gonna be good for anything. Last time I replaced a key it was $200 bucks

    The chip in the key means nothing once they access the odb2 port because it’s the identical tech to the fob. So it’s pull the lock and overwrite the key. The only reason the lower level trims are less likely to be stolen is simply risk/reward for the thief. They’re getting more for the better equipped truck and a judge won’t ask if it was a 6 speed before handing down a sentence.

    The risk is amplified since now they have a computer obstacle and a mechanical one, and there's a skill hurtle, especially since most thieves just follow a simple formula because they are dumb as rocks.

    You can still get a six speed and a key btw
