If I understand correctly you can just bolt on those rims and cause no issues with the manual switch?

I see the manual switches are covered in your photo. Is this prior to the 4WD swap?

Post swap they are uncovered? I guess there is a plate there you can choose to either keep in place or remove?

So I’m getting that the Aisin locks are not any any bigger than the pre runner center hub? All wheels fit with no interference? I have some KMC alloys that fit pretty tight in my pre runner center hub, so much so that I can’t even use the center cap covers because there’s no room.

Yes the covered pictures are prior to my 4WD swap. I used to be a 2WD PreRunner.

You can’t put the covers back on with the manual hubs. Maybe with wheels spacers but I don’t see the point. I should add with my tire size, adding spacers make the running even worse. I run no spacers and have very minimal running of the upper control arms at full lock.

Appreciate the quick reply, that makes sense. I need new tires on my 1999 Tacoma 4WD. My rims/lugs are corroded (old aftermarket aluminum rims).

Is there any reason this setup wouldn't work on my truck (meaning, bolt them on, no further mods needed)?

Where do you recommend buying the AISIN Manual Hubs? Wouldn't look right to get new wheels/rims and keep the old corroded switch.

I got mine new from the dealership, otherwise find them used. There’s more to a manual hub conversion than just the manual hubs, though. You need to press the manual hub bearings in, or swap out the entire steering knuckles. You also need new CV axles, and you have to lock the ADD actuator in 4WD permanently - or do it properly and swap the intermediate tube and jack shaft for the proper manual hub equivalent.

My manual hub dial faces are used, I had them sandblasted and powder coated glossy red and black. They come matte gray and black stock. The red black painted ones from IFS and Solid Axle Toyota Pickups have a different spline count and will not work at all.

Depending on the tire size you might rub the upper control arms. I currently have rubbing at full lock, but that may be on account of the fact that I have bigger tires than stock size. Spacers make the rubbing worse.

I saw some used on ebay for a reasonable price. It's an old truck, definitely don't need brand new rims.

I have the locking hubs already, what about just a swap for new switches or painting them so they look new? Having newer rims would look odd with the existing corroded locks. I think what you're describing was from your swap from 2WD to 4WD.

Here is a picture where you can see the existing setup, not sure if that helps. Current tires are the P265/70R16.

Bring it to a powder coating shop. They sandblast it and make it look brand new. I paid about $100 for this and it’s very well worth it, I’d say it makes the look of the truck.

Unlike paint, glossy powder coat does not “absorb” dirt and grime as much as paint.

Whoa that looks sweet! Good suggestion. Looks like it's just a couple of bolts. How did you get the lettering white?

The painted version looks nice too but I see the advantage of spending the extra cash to have it powder coated.

The lettering isn’t painted, that’s the bare aluminum you’re seeing. I masked everything off and sanded the lettering with 400 Grit sandpaper.
