I just threw some new Falken Wildpeaks 265/75/16s on my 2019 taco. Before having them put on my mpg was around 21 highway. This was my first trip in with them on and I averaged 16. My tire pressure is around 35 on all tires.

This is pretty alarming. I was expecting a drop in mpg but this is a lot worse then I imagined. Everywhere I read said these tires were going to be great. Can anyone help up with me understanding this? Can the psi being high effect my gas mileage? I also put on a new bed cover at the same time. I don't think that should do anything but maybe help out a bit. Online it says you can expect to lose 3% mpg with AT tires but I just lost about 25%. I don't want to take them off as they look and feel amazing but this was bad.

you put on bigger heavier tires with a bigger tread pattern so more rolling resistance. Honestly if you care a lot about MPGs you should leave the highway tires on. Also the tire is now a bit bigger which means it rotates less per mile throwing off your MPG calculations by your truck. Go by smiles per mile(spm) and enjoy your truck which isn’t very fuel friendly anyway.

one trip is not good enough sample to base it on. try after a few trips. I had KO2 LT's of the same size and didn't lose to much. maybe you drove more spirited than normally? maybe you had more hills? lots of things can play a factor.

do you normally drive with CC on? i know for a fact that CC eats some gas depending on road. also, again, you need a bigger sample. i'm sure you will be fine

Thanks for the optimism! But recently yes I have been using CC. It's a 35 mile stretch on a highway. I find it easy to let it do it's thing. I'll stay optimistic and see if it changes at all

did you get the LT 10 ply tire or the SL 4 ply tire? there is an eleven pound per tire difference which certainly make a difference in your gas mileage.

My guess is he got the E rated tire due to the difference in MPG. Probably a huge difference in rolling resistance between the two.

Seems a bit of a heavy loss to me as well. I put same size tire jump on but with 17” wheels. Of course I lost mpg's but not that drastic.

265/75/16 is available in both E and SL load rating. You bought E and wrecked your MPG. Should have bought SL.
