Im so glad my 16 didn't have the lane departure camera, it hikes up the price ridiculously high if you ever have to change the windshield vs not having it on there.

Windshields have extremely high mark up, shop around, negotiate. I paid $145 for mine on a 2017 sport. They wouldn't come to my house at that price, but I did't mind.

Strange. Some people seem to replace windshields every year. I haven't had to replace a windshield in 10 years.

On the other hand I seem to have replaced at least one or two tires every year for about the past 5 years. Lag bolts, screwdrivers, one time it was just a very sharp rock that drilled through the center of the tread.

Just for everyone out there I am in the insurance business and I will say that while I can't speak for every insurance company, MOST will cover windshield replacement under your Comprehensive coverage. This is why we recommend have a lower deductible for comp such as $50 or $100 so you can get your repairs done if you hit a deer or crack the windshield without paying a ridiculously high amount. As for most insurance companies, they do not really care about comprehensive claims like they do collision claims (especially at-fault ones). Typically, a few comprehensive claims will not increase rates.

The only glass I will let them use in my vehicles is Pilkington. Don't use that cheap Chinese shit on my vehicles.

Toyota uses Pilkington, some say ppg and carlite is stronger, personal opinions of what type of glass is better are like oil threads.

edit: going 2 years on a 88 dollar windshield that only has two chips in it so far, cheap Chinese glass.

oem is Pilkington....you can get third party, but if you look closely, the laser etched "Toyota" on the left side, has a black patch on it......you can scrap away the patch, and have OEM......third party cannot have toyota on it unless you pay for it.....my replacement was a pilkington, third party....scratched off patch and had Toyota......

if you get noncom, third party......you will get black last etched writing on the right side if the screen...true third party and more than likely, Chinese

I also have a 2015 Yukon. Last year at this time I had to replace the windshield three times in one month. Good news is that it is only $275 a pop. This vehicle has commercial insurance, so glass is not covered.

What is weird is that I have gone 60k miles since the third one was put in, and it has not cracked. It is pitted to shit, which drives me crazy, but I know that as soon as I replace it I will get hit with a rock.

Sounds about right. Just had mine replaced... $808 for the "Toyota" windshield, but I just have a $50 deductible through Travelers Ins.

Wow, that's annoying. My insurance company actually lists glass damage as an exception; zero deductible for glass even though I've got a $500 deductible for everything else.

Nevermind, I went into my profile and was able to change it separately. Wasn't always like that though. :anonymous:

    funny this thread comes up....

I had my 3rd windshield installed today in my 2017.
had a new one put in back in July, then picked up another rock last friday.

I got OEM because the aftermarket gopro mounts tend to not fit as well, I use the mount for a dash cam.
Geico covered 2 OEM windshields for me but the 2nd took a call and some convincing them to cover it.

    safelite did my replacements.
for those wondering, in my area here were the prices from safelite.

    OEM - $647.42
    Aftermarket - $411.09

    plus installation costs
