    Hi guys,

I am completely new to this forum. I had a FJ Cruiser before acquiring my 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 in Grey. Couple questions, and sorry if they have been covered, I am a motorcycle guy so dont know a lot about moding trucks.

First, has anyone had issues with their speedometer? I do, It dosnt work half the time or completely malfunctions and the needle acts like a "ticking" similar to some second hands on clocks. Only 13,000km on the truck. I have a video I can post later. I have mentioned this to Toyota, which it has now been escalated to Toyota HQ to see if this is a one time thing, or happening to more trucks..haven't heard back yet, or about my appointment to have it fixed.

Secondly, I just won a sick set of rims in a golf tournament for my truck. I stuck with the 17's cause of more tire options, however I am curious the largest tire size I can go without needing a lift. I dont want to mess with the truck and jack it up as its my daily driver. However I want some beefy tires just to make it look a little better with the matte black rims. Stock is 265/65/17, the new rims are 17x7.5 with a 20mm offset..any suggestions?

bunch of stuff - Bro Pro style
20MM offset of gonna be REAL close to rub, your only plus is the 7.5 width that could help some.

Would you suggest I get some Spidertrax 1.5" spacers?

I imagine a 265/70/17 will fit especially if I get spacers?

    1. Yes, the speedo problem has been reported here, as well as the 2nd gen. There is no real root cause other than dealer replacing the gauge cluster - which may or may not happen again.
    2. 265/70/17 seems to be the preferred size for folks that want to have a slightly beefier tire and retain stock handling characteristics.

Great thanks for the info, would you happen to know if I should run spacers due to the 20mm offset? Im skeptical about spacers, I know there are lots of talk about it on this forum, but something about bolting something behind your wheel gives me a scare...

Welcome ! i'm also a motorcycle fanatic (supermotos) and there are quite a few of us here.

IMO, and just MO - i'm not a fan of wheel spacers. I would buy a set of wheels with proper offset, or not run them at all. I come from an old school background where I don't like to introduce variables in the drive train. You're basically adding a point of failure.

Here's a great calculator with view-able differences: The stock sport wheels have 30mm offset, you're running 20mm. Which means 10mm further out. I would be fine with that.

Awesome, that's all I needed to know, if the stock sport wheels are 30mm then the 20 will be no issue. No need for spacers I am cool with that. Thank you very much! Now to order tires and mount them up!

Just for reference the SEMA TRD Pro wheels everyone has here has a 4mm offset, and many are running stock suspension with 265/70/17 and reported no rubbing.

Well sorta; seems some folks with OEM mudflaps will rub, and some won't. Probably just manufacturing tolerance thing.
