Newb Mistake?

Okay, so today while working on my taco, I decided to adjust the gain on my amplifier (Alpine MRV-F300) and re route some wires (RCA cables and signal wire to be exact). First, I adjusted the gain, and tested it out, everything at this point worked just fine. Next, I unplugged the RCA cables and the signal wire to reroute them under the carpet from the center counsel. After this, I plugged everything back into the correct place as it was before, and the rear right speaker stopped working...... I did everything correct to my knowledge, unplugged the battery etc etc... The only thing I unplugged were the two sets of wires listed above, nothing else was messed with. I tried swapping all the RCA cables around, and all the cables worked just fine. First I thought It was the amp, so I ran to cartoys and swapped it out with a new one. Got it all installed and it's the same issue. So, sorry for the long post but I am trying to be descriptive as possible. Any ideas?

 

Did you check the fade on the stereo?

 

Like desertrunner said I would check head unit settings first, if that doesn’t fix the issue make sure your RCA cables are not running next to your amp power/ground wires. Sometimes the shielding material on stereo wire isn’t quite up to par, and power can bleed off the larger wires and interfere with the signals going from your head unit to your amp via the RCA’s.

The only wires the Rca cables are next to is the signal wire. Which they were by before I changed the routing. I just went under the carpet instead of over it. Here's a before picture

I just went under the carpet from the center console with the 4 Rcas and the signal

 

I did that. I ran each rca cable to channel 1 and they all powered the speaker set to channel 1

Could be your RCA cable might be getting pinched somewhere along the route and causing interference with the signal.

 

Is the amp bridgeable? Maybe you just hit a switch.

 

Did you check the connection at the speaker itself? Tried swapping the suspect speaker with a known good speaker, just to be sure?

 

Also check the headunit where the RCA plugs into it, it might of pulled loose when you rerouted

 

On my kicker amp it has a input level button (HI-LO) when I install my new head unit i had to change that to high i think since the RCA's where coming from the head unit and not from the in line converter. Maybe you hit that by mistake don't even know if your alpine has that or not. But if its on the wrong setting no sound will come out of that channel.

 

I was thinking about that, but then why would all the cables work when I tested them all on channel 1? They all powered the speaker just fine.

 

I dont think it is. Anyway, the only thing I adjusted was the gain, and if it was something like just accidentally hitting a switch, why would only 1 speaker not work?

 

This is a good idea, I'd have to try it. But I didn't pull any cables that would lead to a bad speaker connection. Unless I did just enough and have to tear apart my taco again....

 

They were all in the head unit very firmly.

 

I'll have to double check, but on my amp, channel 1 and 2 are together, as well as 3 and 4. So if I hit a switch, both speakers on that section wouldn't work. In this case, my entire right side would be silent.

 

Because that's how bridging works, or at least that's how my ADS amp responds. Must have hit it while vacuuming. Switched it back and speaker came back all good.
