Newb Mistake?

Any more ideas before I start tearing apart my tacoma again? Think I'll check the connections at the speaker first, maybe plug in a different speaker to see forsure if it's the wires, then start pulling wire to see if it's cut or pinched somewhere

 

Think that's all you can do. Looks like you have two choices. 1 is try a different speaker and see if its the speaker or the wire going to the speaker.Or 2 if that right rear is on ch4 of the amp move it to say ch3 that is working and see if the trouble follows the wire/speaker. From what you said you did the trouble has to be right there at the amp. But hey crazy things happen if you have the luck i have

 

1. Run a cheap set of RCA's, across the seats, from the headunit to the amp to rule out the cable and connections.

2. Double check speaker wire connections and potential pinch points. Double check the speakers and polarity.

3. Swap out the head unit for an old/another headunit if possible, to rule out your head unit.

4. None of the good Amp manufacturers are perfect and components do sometimes fail. If it is a dead channel, Alpine amps are roughly $100 to get repaired door-to-door by an authorized Alpine repairer, which is somewhat reasonable (I took apart my PDX to board diagnose, it took me 3 hours altogether, and I had access to tools if stuff needed swapped) - so I think the $100 is reasonable as long as its reliably fixed in the end. Make sure you don't keep running/idling the amp while its like this, as the problem make become more complicated, and stress other components downstream - or burn a speaker voice coil if its throwing DC out.

To me it seems like it’s one of five things:

1: RCA cable disconnected from pre out on head unit

2: wire to speaker itself became disconnected either at the amp connection or somewhere between amp and speaker

3: bad RCA Cable

4: internal component failure of the amp itself

5: bad Pre out on head unit

Run a different set of RCA’s, check the speaker wiring, check the head unit, and if all the above yields nothing, then I think it’s safe to say the amp is the problem. If that process gets you nowhere, I don’t know what to tell ya

 

Whelp thanks guys. I'll try out these things. Hopefully it's just the speaker wire got messed up. I'll strip a little more wire back and put them back in the amp slots to see if that helps, then go to the Rca idea. Bye bye Saturday

 

You can pull the output wires off the offending channel and take a 9 volt battery and touch the wires to the contacts, you will hear it thump if the wires to the speaker and speaker is still functioning, I have used this method many times to wire vehicles where someone else got there first and made a mess of it. This also keeps you from unhooking what is already working just to test it.

 

I'll have to test that. really just hopeing it's an easy fix. But with my luck it won't be
