Newb question

What i would be the greatest ideal lift from
3-5' considering not having Any harm to my taco and if will affect wheel
Alinement or raise gas price


I'm considering putting either 18 or 20' rims maybe rockstar unless if there is a better off road rim and also putting 33' or 35' bf mud terrain

 

Just getting the more aggressive tires alone will effect your MPG...and the bigger you go...the less MPG as well. Most of use around here do 3" lifts with 285s or 33's. Old Man Emu makes a great lift and so does Toytec...any additional info you need can be found using the "Search Fuction"

Also anything over 2.5" of lift requires new UCAs to get your alignment right...

 

You wanna put on 35's but not affect gas mileage ?

There really isnt a lift between 3" and 5" its really an either or type thing.

You will want, from your description, 4.5" RCD lift, and 33" tires with 4.10 gears. For rims... a better rim than Rockstar for offroading? Uhh... I thinks that pretty much any rim as that would be the WORST offroad rim choice possible on any level. You want to try to find the lightest tire possible to reduce lost milage too... probably a BFG KM2 as a compromise.

 

I'm totally guessing here.

But I bet the RCD drop bracket lift and 20" rockstars with 33" 305/55R20 BFG-AT KOs would work well for what you want.

Now, it's possible that I'm totally wrong. But you haven't told us much about how you plan to use your truck, have you?

I go messing around a lot mainly mudding and offroading

 

OK, once you get offroad past the "fire road" stage, it's pretty typical to air down your tires. How much is a different question...

But when running a low profile tire such as 55, you can't air down very much.

So it's typical to run a 75 series tire such as 285/75R16, rather than a low profile 'off road' tire on a tall rim such as an 18 or 20" rockstar.

The harder the trail, the more treacherous it is to have a high center of gravity. And drop-bracket lifts such as RCD et. al. lower the front differential and axle components, so they don't really increase clearance over much over the center vs. a 3" lift. (Yes, they WILL have higher breakover/approach/departure angles)

So trail driven tacomas often choose just a 3" lift such as OME, Toytec, or coilovers by Fox/Icon/Camburg/etc...

Have you high centered your truck yet on roads/trails you drive?

Also, running big heavy tires is gonna hurt your gas mileage. No two ways around it.

You're likely going to get driveline vibes.

Final word: go down to your local wheelin' areas and see what setup folks who're actually off-roading their Tacomas are running.
