    I guess it depends what your intentions are to do with a tacoma. Myself i have no use to do any serious off roading, but we do have nasty winters here with a lot of icy roads, so 4wd comes in handy, especially where i live. I found the tacoma fine for towing my 2k lb boat, and using my utility trailer to tow my sled in the winter. Its plenty of truck for my needs. I think if your in that ballpark a lesser model is more than capable. For whatever reason some guys will want a truck more then needed whether they think spending more is better, or just to say they have it.
