Clearly the OEM bed mat as you have heard plenty already. You can usually find them for $70-$80 bucks on ebay. My other top items you will probably hear echoed as well. Salex oranizers, Husky floor liners. Slightly more expensive items I have enjoyed are my Clazzio seat covers, Relentless Fab Tailgate Re enforcement and their shovel/axe holder. I'm a tonneau guy but I like the soft toppers better than the hard, cause I think they look better and I like that you can fold them down if necessary. Drawbacks are its less durable, less weather proof, less secure. I recently found out about this mod and it seems to be pretty popular and like it would be useful, especially as a mom.

My big advice would be take a deep breath and really think about what you need and want and what its purpose is going to be. Then do lots of research and contemplation before you get caught up in the excitement and buy stuff you end up later regretting or wanting to trade for something else.

    Welcome aboard!

I don't have a topper. I do like the soft tops. With that said,I will toot the bed mat horn once again.

I feel like this is great advice. I don't want to go too crazy. I just need some necessities for traveling to CO from ID to my brother's with kids and dogs. Don't want them breaking their nails on the truck bed... Or my crap flying all over the place haha
The bed Mat I plan on getting and a tonneau cover. We'll see if a little pop camper is a better option than the bed topper down the road! Thanks all

I will say this. A bunch of men I know of a certain age spend all of their money on golf. So, there's that. Now, nothing wrong with golf, mind you. But I'd rather spend it on the Tacoma than golf clubs ! :)

Clazzio Seat covers. No question. Buy once cry once. Then enjoy the rewards for the next 10 years. I'm not affiliated. I just bought them and think highly of them.

Love my bed mat. Like my tailgate replacement too, smoother to sit on, but I think there are cheaper options I didn't know about. Working on solving for a backrest when I sit in the back with the kids and chat up the neighbors. Really like my germes lab front camera setup but I have a unique parking situation where it's very helpful to get within 1-2 inches of "just right" but it's probably not essential for normal people. OEM tailgate lock pairs perfectly with my tonneau cover, but with a hard shell maybe not nearly as important b/c you still have to lock those with a key? The rest is mostly fluff but I keep the mods rolling b/c this is my hobby right now and it's fun as f to tinker. I usually have about 2h most evenings once the kids are asleep to do something to the truck so one tiny thing or 1/4 or so of something real. Working up the nerve to cut my console right now for 400w anytime 120v + 12v plugs in the back.

Oh, and I haven't personally solved the dog thing since if it's all 5 of us we take the minivan, but all sorts of posts of dog-friendly platforms for AC and DC if you're willing to DIY. I kinda don't love the dog-hair-inside-the-vehicle thing but also don't want a shell again so we just take the minivan when we're driving with the pooch.

Thank you! I'm not partial to the dog hair either (two Aussies) haha. I figured a truck bed set up would probably be the way to go. Great theft deterrent too
What will you use the electrical plug mod for down the road? Beer fridge? ;)

^^^These are great, inexpensive additions that help organize the cockpit of your truck...and the bed mat...and lots of other ways to spend money. I won't add more to the list, already lots of good advice here. I did go with a tri-fold tonneau (Lomax) for my truck and am really happy with it.

Make the truck yours and enjoy it.

    Oh, and welcome to TW!!

Believe it or not, there is a thread on “what do you do with your 120V plug”. One of the better suggestions I remember reading is bringing a crock pot on a long drive to a campsite so food is ready on arrival.

If you ever plan on actually using your bed for taller items , get a soft top. I bought a hard top and heavily regret it when I have to use the bed because it’s so damn heavy and awkward trying to get it off. Soft top will just fold down with 1 person and pop back up whenever u need it.

Not the greatest pics but here they are. Was a utility package from the factory. But I wanted rear seats and found a wrecked OR on eBay and got everything I need for under $400 and added them in 1 afternoon. Has carhart seat covers that I love.

Welcome to TW! I bought the bed mat, and Toyota all weather mats before I even got my truck. They are a MUST! But my biggest improvement was the LED light swaps. Low, High, Fogs, and reverse lights. What a difference! Happy modding meli88!
