    Hello Everyone!

I drive a 98 4runner with 185k miles and 370z Nismo. I will be trading in my 4runner for a '12 White DC Tacoma TX Pro w/ Supercharger installed or Black DC Baja w/ supercharger installed if I can find one in the next few months leading into December. I read today that a new 2013 Tacoma will be coming out approximately around Labor Day??? Thus, I don't feel so anxious waiting anymore. Theoretically with the new model around the corner, I for see buyer incentives. FYI, I was offered a 1.9% rate if I were to buy a TX Pro this week here in Memphis. However, the wifey quickly shot all my hopes of getting it. Anyways, I will research the forum and will hopefully have all my mods decided on by the time I get my Taco. Peace Out and look forward to creating Awesomeness!

Reading through the threads and find a common shuddering issue.

Damn..... I'm having second thoughts.

Glad I'm researching before the plunge.

    What to do?
    1. Test drive and find one that doesn't shudder
    2. Wait till I hear solutions on this forum, have a sigh of relief and go buy
    3. Wait for 2013 model and hope the vibrations are fixed.
    4. Ford Raptor (Don't hate me).

    Looks like more waiting..............

Welcome, fellow memphian here. What area are you from? I live in Cordova but originally from Collierville.

Performance Toyota on Winchester is who I have had the best luck with as far as wanting to make deals.

I am going to get with a few other Tacoma/Toyota owners and have a local meet, so if you are interested, come on out!

Germantown. thanks for the invite. I've been to wolfchase Toyota and chuck Hutton. Wolf quoted me 7k for supercharger w/ install and 6k at chuck Hutton. I will check with Performance on my off time.

Anyone, what should I be really paying and what kind of things should i look for when test driving other than what I have listed?

    Here's what I have researched:
    1. Shuddering- 0-25mph accel, uphill accel, and breaking. I did notice my first test drive the taco was pretty harsh around 70-90 mph. Idk if that's normal. (I would never buy a vehicle if it did that).
    2. whistling noise from bad seal at hood meeting grill. (easy fix acknowledged)
    3. Dash board rattles (I can't stand rattles like my pops Yukon. Assumed it was only an American issue, gmc btw)
    4. Tick, tick, tick, tick (I want to hear if I can tolerate it. If its anything like an old grandfather clock, I'm gonna be pissed. Sporadic I may tolerate)
    5. Swirls on paint job (I wonder if less visible on white)
    6. Squeeling in reverse (sounds ghetto for 45k I will be spending)
    7. Stopping and feeling the "caboose effect" (just horrible and embarrassing)
    8. Gas pedal: gonna pay more attention next drive
    9. Squishy brakes. What's the fix for this? Trd?
    10. rear view mirror and blocking field of vision for people over 6'0. I'm 6'1
    11. Highway noise due to lack of floor and ceiling insulation
    12. Enttune and connectivity issues with iPhone. Would like to see Bluetooth streaming or tethering will work without jailbreaking or tethering plan.
    13. Key remote is pathetic. My 98 remote looks and feels more modern. (Toyota cutting costs)
    14. Wipers has only 2 speeds (wtf).
    15. Dash light on all the time (DUI hazard- may think I turned headlights on).
    16. Day running lights on full time (why?)
    17. Rattling passenger seat when driving over pot holes/small bumps (new find)
Pros in a nut: good engine, tranny, aesthetics, and many available mods.

I know nothing is perfect but if you're spending over 40k there are plenty of other options available. I just hate the ford green dashboard readings. Looks out dated and cheap American. I do like the orange dash readings on taco. Kind of like my wife's x5 and all beamers. I don't like jeeps because I use to own 93 grand Cherokee limited v-8. POS at 75k miles. however, maybe they got it right by now with the srt8. don't want another 4runner. boring...... I just remembered, my options are limited because this daily driver will have to park in the worst areas of Memphis. 98 4runner still gets abused from ghetto drivers backing into my bumper and people slamming doors open. Maybe I should ride my 4runner till the wheels fall off. I think they are about to but don't want to spend, I'm estimating 2500 to fix and replace everything. That's almost it's KBB value. Ok enough rambling like the idiot on the rambling rose.

dilemma...... all these quirks got me thinking Toyota is no longer taking pride in craftsmanship. Perhaps assembly in US the cause? does anyone out there not have any of the above issues?

After reading over 20 plus hours from this forum since joining, I am definitely waiting to see and confirm the changes in 2013. In the mean time, I will test drive a raptor. (though I hate the 11 mpgs). Sorry to be a downer but I'm just disappointed from the shit I've read and watched on YouTube. Come on... A ticking engine!? And listening to a supercharger on video does sound like an angry sewing machine gone mad. I'm turned off!

On behalf of many Tacoma owners, maybe you should buy the Raptor.

I have not had any of those issues that you mentioned and I have a 2012 TRD. This is my second Tacoma my first was a SR5 and I put 180,000mi on it and it's still running around and looking good.
I expect the same from this new Tacoma, and so far I can say that I am not disappointed one bit.

The choice is yours. I've owned 5 Toyota and have not be disappointed with any of them.

    Good luck with your choice

Maybe not... After test driving the other day, I didn't feel connected. As I had predicted, still not a fan of full size pickups that drink gas as fast as I drink beer. Won't mention the rap again. Taco all the way! Dig the forum!
