    Hello all,

Seldom lurker and first time poster. I have a lot on my mind that I don't really know how to explain in a nutshell, but anyway, here's a little about myself and part of the reason why I made this account today:

Got my 2017 Tacoma OR in Dec. 2016, which was my first, and have kept it stock since.

I've always had the interest to modify but haven't been willing to spend the money, yet. Also, I don't feel like I have researched enough to know what will work well for my needs/wants. Keep in mind: I'm not asking for recommendations, I'm not asking for handed-out advice, I'm not asking people to do research for me... I finally made an account here for a reason, and it's to see others' setups and what works well for them, because I think I want to pull the trigger on modifying my vehicle in the near future.

I can easily afford it, so that's not the issue, but something in my cheapskate mind tells me that it's not worth it to spend X amount of dollars on something I don't inherently *need*... I feel like a lot of people get a Tacoma, or any vehicle in general, and immediately start applying modifications without any hesitation. And sometimes, the people that do this are incredibly financially irresponsible (some, not all), and don't do much research beforehand. That's just from what I've personally seen.

The stock setup has done well, but there have been several situations where modifications may have helped me get through a few obstacles. Also, I'm beginning to admire the aesthetics of modified Tacomas. Hopefully this forum will help be of guidance in how to begin modifying, what to look for, etc. I enjoy doing all of my own research, but it's also nice to see other people's own testimonies.

TL;DR - Anyone else like me? Sort of a cheapskate that wants to modify but is in a mind-battle about whether it's worth it or not? Or just a person like me, who off roads but isn't trying to do super crazy shit that gets me stuck every day? Just some more efficient tires, a little bit of a lift, I don't know. I heard one thing leads to another, so we'll see what happens!

Welcome to TW! Nice truck. The ole Zyzzx never gets old. Name gets me every time. I vow to properly pronounce it someday...

My first piece of advice would be that, whatever it is that you’re looking to do, look for it here first in a used condition or group buy. It’s worth the wait.

    Welcome.

I'm having a hard time believing you are a Marine. No offence. Non of my Marine friends are that deep or articulate.

I really don't see much reason to mod my trucks and I, as well can easily afford it. I don't see a point to tie up that money. There are too many places I want to see and my truck can't get me there, but a cheap plane ticket can.

I can't fault those that want to mod. They are free to spend their time and money as they feel. I'm spending my extra money on seeing new places.

I mile of highway will take you a mile. I mile of runway will take you anywhere.

I'll take that as a compliment, I guess.

Anyway, I compare the price of any mod to the price of any plane ticket to travel around the world or in the country. It's a hard decision to start modding, but I have to stop being a cheapskate. This will be my first time modding any vehicle of mine. It only took two cars and one motorcycle later.
