Who cares how long it's been around I would be pissed new truck with a blown engine. Hurts the resale value plus you don't expect to deal with this buying a new truck.
Toyota should make it right with you

You have a problem with your truck, therefore you are a troll. Go away! Or go read the what we did to our truck today thread and read every page 12 times, and only then you will realize that you cannot possibly be unhappy for any reason what-so-ever.

    :burp:

BTW, hope they get you fixed up and give you the warranty you want.

Well, I understand the frustration and I would be understandably pissed as well if my engine takes a dump. The thing for me though is it's an enthusiast website, and it's only 1 or 2 known to actually take a dump... out of how many THOUSANDS of trucks sold and driven? You're talking less than a hundred thousandth (0.00001) of a percent, and that's with really shitty math and a wild guess on total numbers sold in the US.

I sincerely hope Toyota makes it right for you OP and you can start to enjoy the truck.

I agree and I don`t believe it even happened.

I will believe it when the OP shows some REAL documentation.

The concept for an Atkinson cycle combustion engine may date back that far, but that has absolutely nothing to do with when the components for this engine were designed. The 2G blocks date back to 2006 or so I believe, basically same block that has been in the Avalon, Camry, etc. But that's where the similarities end. The heads, valve train, EFI, fuel system, are all new and specific to this engine. Stuff like the high pressure fuel pump, port+direct injection system, cams and other valve train are all "unproven" in a production engine. Toyota has used some similar designs in other applications, but most of this stuff was designed specifically for the 2016 Tacoma. That means that if something was messed up by a parts supplier using inferior metal than the development prototype original used then you could very possibly end up with a production engine that decides to say, eat camshaft bearings, crap out piston rings, explodey high pressure fuel pumps that destroy the engine with shrapnel, or whatever. None of those potential issues have anything to do with the Atkinson cycle dating back to 1882.

It never ceases to amaze me how many experts we have on this forum, feel obligated to "teach" people about the origin of the engine going back over 100 years. To think the engine from 1882 can be directly compared to the 3rd gen engine is ridiculous. And to add insult to injury, you guys call out the OP for not replying to this thread... Some of you guys are being rude to him and wonder why he won't play with you...

I don't know if that engine its been there since 82, what I know from a fact is that is the same engine that
Avalon's and 4 runner have be using for long time, everything might be new in Tacomas 3th gen. but definitely is not new to Toyota since all the technology that 3rd gen have now, its been in cars for long time already.
Back to the OP, as mentioned before, thats really something you don't hear from Toyota to often, just bad luck.
Hope the issue is resolved smoothly, because I know Toyota's cust. service is not the greatest.

Wat? This engine has never been used as it sits. The Lexus 350 has the same bore and stroke but doesn't have simulated Atkinson. Every prius has full time simulated Atkinson... to say it's the same engine in the Avalon and Sienna is like saying they both have pistons and cranks.
