I would say I don't need more torque at all being that I rarely haul and don't own anything like a boat yet, but in order to prevent me from ever needing to go from a Tacoma to a full sized truck, I wouldn't mind it being a do-it-all just in case.

I'm holding out for the new model before I buy a new truck. If it doesn't have more power, I'll have to look at one of the other midsize trucks or a full size. Towing my 3000 lb trailer my mileage dropped to 12.7 mpg. Even at 4500 rpms up the hill I couldn't keep 55 mph.

The 3.6 in the Colorado makes more tq then our current 4.0l at the same rpm of 4k, but yes for max hp it has to rev to almost 7k where ours comes in at 5200rpm. As you mention difference in a truck engine vs. an engine that was made for a car and tuned for a truck application like the 3.6 going into the Colorado. Have they stuffed the 4.3 in there it would have a better truck tuned powerband.

    3.6l: 305@6950, 269tq@4000

    4.3l: 285@5300, 305tq@3900

    4.0l: 236@5200, 266tq@4000

I would rather see them either introduce a new truck engine or a new age 4.0l, if Toyota could hit close or at the numbers of gm's 4.3 I think most would be happy with that.

peak numbers dont really tell the whole story.

The 4.0L in our current trucks have a VERY flat torque curve which gives it its sneaky quickness compared to other vehicles of the same type that technically have more hp.

Yeah I'm pretty happy with the throttle response on the 4.0L. At all levels. I am coming from the 2.7L so may have something to do with it. . .

Thank you, but I honestly digress with attempting any further efforts on my part. I myself try to be very helpful here in this regard, but clearly what one states here about the next Hilux and 3rd Generation Tacoma, is glossed over in going in one ear and out the other of many TWers. Not all of us thankfully, but some of us, which explains the same questions popping up or asking: "Why does it look the same?" or "Is 2015 the redesign?"

I make as many visits as I can to TMMTX and fish for info in the SA area on retooling plans. And while I may not know 100%, I have come across some concrete information, especially design aspects. I am never making things up without legitimacy whenever I post.

I understand many Tacoma owners and TW posters are tired of hearing dead-end BS speculation for the past 5 years, but should remember at this stage it is very much late in the current model's cycle and not all of us talk out of our arse about the next Tacoma. At least listening to what some of us have to tell you, especially pbm317.

And I applaud for your helpful efforts, in attempting to inform many of us about about the next Tacoma. Not sure why many fail to take notice of what you're doing and continue to speculate on what has been somewhat validated by informed contributors.

I chalk it up to, unlike a lot of other forums, most Tacoma and TW-focused users are not so knowledgeable about the vehicle development process, unless they are active on other brand/model forums (exotic/luxury) or have the time to keep up with such information in general.

I blame that on how the likes of the Tacoma, Jeep Wrangler, Ford Mustang, and Nissan Frontier having long life cycles and rarely going through major changes. Also on Toyota MC being obsessively secretive and as a result, allowing heavy saturation of misleading and speculative BS on their future products.

Enthusiasts/avid owners of those models I listed above, are less likely to pay attention to nor understand certain "hidden in plain sight" vehicle development processes (such as mules not being 100% representative of a future model). Especially compared to owners/enthusiasts of certain brands/models, that get such info served on a platter to them, such as BMW owners (save for TWers working in the industry).

Spy shots of testing and (active) development-parallel insider information, are usually of no interest, considered dubious, or even puzzling to such individuals/groups.

At this stage, none of us who do claim to know about it, has an incentive to be lying to anyone about the next Tacoma. In that case everyone, a little bit of trust would do wonders towards anything pbm317 or TacomaBuilder67 bring up. (They are not lying and are honestly informed.)

Particularly in minimizing many useless threads and repetitive questions that continue to pop up concerning the next generation Tacoma, which essentially add nothing new to the discussion.

Not sure who/where you got that from, but yes that is true. I had stated similar much earlier in this thread and unlike the 2014 Tundra, the lettering will be from side to side across the tailgate. I had also said it will be related to the 180 Land Cruiser platform, that the next 4Runner will use.

The idea that the spotted mule's platform is 100% identical to the current production Tacoma's is a poor observation by the photographer(s). By the time anyone even catches the real article being tested, it would've been nearly 1 1/2 years since "no changes" was reached in the design department in 2013.

Anyone else who has seen it recently and mentions the tailgate lettering, saw a real prototype (not a concept/unfinished model), so believe them 100%. Production start-up is currently no later than Q3 2015 despite how some people may ignorantly quote "2016" or "2017" to sound legitimate or justify a 2014-15 Tacoma.

I just hope as everything further comes together into the final stages of testing (late 2014-mid 2015), that the overall packaging for the 2016 Tacoma will not be mediocre (I know nothing about the interior design and the ergonomics/features/equipment).

I greatly disagree with that assertion. With some of you, maybe it's just a joke, but in light of publicized photographic evidence of Tacoma development, this is a very important thread. The very first step (spy shots), in what will eventually lead to the official 3rd Generation itself and dedicated TW sections for it. That right there is the difference versus earlier pointless next-gen speculation, usually without anything in sight showing that Toyota has plans for major updates.

The 2012 facelift (Aug 2011) popped out of nowhere, despite being under development for 2 years (2009-11). You are already seeing public evidence of pre-prototypes testing the 2016, so it's not as if this thread started out on baseless info. If it's being derailed by off-topic discussion, that can be moderated anyway.

    1. DO NOT WANT. 99% of implementations is a stupid feedback-less button. Terrible ergonomics with stupid software behind it. Only Mazda did rotary switch on one of their cars, don't recall which. Marketing idiots insist on "button", because "rotary switch" or "knob" would not be as catchy and costs extra $.10 to make.

    2. Heated, sure. Vented, mmm, no, it's a truck.

    3. Ok.

    4. Nice to have, not critical.

I am glad they are bothering, because otherwise I won't buy the new Tacoma, and will look for a used 2nd gen. instead. It is also possible that most of "those folks" would consider another brand truck if they had no choice of manual and had to settle for an auto anyway.

Make a base model for people who like base models.

Make a proper limited model for the vast amount of people that enjoy a luxury truck. I for one won't buy another Tacoma unless it comes with more luxury. I will either go for the new Ridgeline or a suv/fullsize.

I bet most Tacoma sales are for the higher end sport/off road package. Why? Because people like expensive options.

Agreed from the point of I won't drive an automatic pickup.

And I think there's a lot more sticks out there than you realize. Most are fleet trucks though, and I think that skews it.

I have no use for a push button start vehicle.

Same goes for a touch screen radio, hvac and everything in one. I understand more vehicles will go this way after the mandate of the back up camera.

Just more crap to break, it goes down and you have nothing.

Cant say I would but another one anyways since the tacoma is not what it used to be and the frame issues are just being a joke now.
