    1. don't understand the appeal either
    2. don't care for heated/vented seats (and I live in Canada, I realize I'm probably the only one...)
    3. would be ok with good stereo, but don't really care for touch screen etc.
    4. useless function for me, only useful when you sharing one vehicle

So to sum it up: 2, 3 and 4 could be options on higher trims, just make base DC 4x4 available with basic stuff for those that want it. (me) 1, still don't understand the appeal.

Slow and aweful mileage, cheap interior materials, clumsy ride, poor braking.
I loved my 93-97-04 4Runners but hate the newest model.

The same reason I want to get rid of my current Tacoma. It feels very outdated if you test new cars.

Any information about the frame? Do you know if they are going to tuck the tranny up higher with less low hanging parts (more like the 1st gen, current 4runner, just about every other off road vehicle) or if it will be more of the same -- similar to what is currently shown on the mule?

Also any idea if apple's carplay will show up on the Tacoma?

What I'd like to see in the next gen Tacoma:

Styling; keep the exterior look similar, upgrade the interior materials and improve seat comfort.

Function; more efficient gas engine, heavy duty WR (wide ratio) manual transmission and 6-speed automatic, heavier duty lockable tailgate, refine the drivetrain to eliminate vibrations, heavier duty rear springs, manual lever operated 4wd (push button 4wd can be for the SUV's), better frame steel or rust preventative.

this was the point of my post, the warden wants a limited since like her truck

cause she wants a truck not a suv

    1. even better is the smart card system lexus has, just a credit card in your wallet, no fob. we both like the push/start and I am a convert from keys

    2. I am in ND and the vented seats are nice on long drives on hot days. heated seats save me from installing a remote start since the seat warms up in less than 45 secs. beats running the vehicle to warm it up.

    3. rather not deal with 3rd party purchase then 3rd party install, then the hassle of warranty work and the cost to remove/install the replacement. Toyota platinum ext warranty is my resolution to that issue. :p

    4. well when we both drive either vehicle and we have different settings, it saves a lot of headaches trying to find that sweet spot manually each time. maybe when you have a spouse who drives your vehicle you might understand.

if you don't like those features then buy the base model, cause those 10% people don't drive the sales.

[IMG]Thank you, getting tired of the confusion and some falsehoods here, as everyone is looking forward to the unveiling next year and do not need pointless pessimism/negativity detracting from it or misleading speculation.

Well maybe YOU don't want those features, but others certainly do and will turn to competitors , if Toyota has/had narrowly follow(s/ed) such logic. Trim levels and optional equipment exist for a reason. Ventilated seats are currently offered on the Tundra.

I agree with that, as they're already going in that direction somewhat. I would've gotten a fully loaded TRD Sport or Off-Road, if mine wasn't the only available 6-speed manual in Texas last November.

[IMG]Terrible logic, as it does not have the same versatility as the Tacoma nor offers the same options, such as a manual transmission paired to a V6.

I believe he made suggestions as to what he hopes, not declarations that Toyota must abide by and make standard across the range. If you don't want such equipment in your Tacoma, then don't add it.[IMG]

It is convenient, just as the invention of the electric starter eliminated the need to hand crank the engine from the outside. I don't remember No Dak stating Toyota it must be standard equipment on all 2016 Tacomas. Not everyone wants a spartan-by-comparison $30-40k truck in 2015-2025.

I agree and also feel that the build quality in some areas on 2009-2010 Tacomas is much better than my 2014, plus some obvious cost cutting from MY2012-present.
The 2016 is going to be a good improvement, that will be worthwhile.

100% agree and don't understand some of this silly nitpicking. However, I won't even blame Toyota for never offering it on the current Tacoma. None of the USM BOF Toyotas outside of the 4Runner and Land Cruiser line offer this system, so it will be first among the trucks.

Unlike you, I don't know as much about the 2016 (regarding full features/equipment). Since all BOF Toyotas offer heated/ventilated seats, I figure that combo is reserved for the Tundra.

It would be nice, but not sure why it would be urgent to have that. Probably need to refresh myself on if other non-premium/upper tier Toyotas have that.

Wholeheartedly I agree with you and I would ignore any negative comments that suggest you are asking for too much. Pbm pretty much explained it all anyway.

Sure. I love the concept of the feature. I hate the (common) implementation: the effing BUTTON! You have to press that stupid thing a couple of times to get to start from acc, etc. Not to mention the actual start/stop function is controlled by some stupid software (that can potentially hang and cause "unintended acceleration", however remote that is).

It would be much more convenient (and safer) if instead of the button there was a rotary switch - shaped like a key and located in the usual ignition key spot - that would perform the same function in a familar fashion of the key that never needs to be removed.

I total agree with PBM317 " Those who don't understand the convenience have likely never really experienced the feature". I had this in my BMW 335i and LOVED it. FYI, you push it once (with clutch in) to start. Leave foot off and it would turn on the ACC. This feature spoils the sh*t out of you!

There's at least one here that has "experienced the feature" and doesn't care for it. The wife's Camry has it and I don't care for it at all. The fobs are bulkier than a key which takes more pocket room but it's not a problem for her as she leaves it in her purse. It will require battery lithium replacement at some point.
I suppose they will eventually have an App for smart phones to replace fobs. Meanwhile just put in a nice manual transmission, beef up the suspension and tailgate, upgrade the motor to DI, and I'll buy one, even if it has the trendy fob.:D

lexus has this already, phone app called RES+ vs the regular RES (Remote Engine Start). 3rd party has this also, Compustar (Drone Mobile), Viper (Smart Start) I think.

but the only issue I see with the phone app is the delay on lock/unlock since it has to transmit thru the cellphone system to the vehicle compared to a fob. for me (extreme cold winters/distance) this is a great feature.

ie: other end of mall I can remote start the vehicle and it will be warm by the time I get there, or once the movie credits roll I can start it.

Thanks, as I've said for a long time that it is a fall 2015 launch date and mules were at least testing (just not so publicly). Yet one hears from many, suggestions like 2016 or 2017, like I'm talking out of my arse. Like Gen 1's significant facelift (2000-2004), I had stated the current one will run 4 years from 2011 to 2015.

Like you've said, most can only wait and see for the next few months. It is also very possible the first prototypes of it caught testing, will be TMMTX pilot production builds and not verification prototypes from TTC.

+5 I cannot understand who would stupidly give this thread a 1 star. Thank you hpvds for at least trying, as it helped to at least give some concrete idea for everyone else on a successor (or successive generation). Some folks can be so ignorant, yet also punish others for their lack of intellect.

One would be disappointed that the manual doesn't come with it, as I've heard of some manual transmission vehicles not being available with such a system and automatic only. Similar to how that happens with remote start applications (see Jeep Wrangler).

Welcome to TW! I had similarly creeped this site here and there for about 6-7 years . I hope with this being a proper redesign, that TMMTX assembly is able to do a near-perfect job within 12 months of production and that any new suppliers for all the components brought to the table, are truly 5-star. The addition of the 2011 model to TMMTX in 2010 proved challenging, in having some Tacoma components redesigned from 2009-2010 models for easier assembly. All ahead of a major, costly facelift scheduled in late 2011.

You only push once with foot on the brake. I don't know of any car on the market that requires multiple pushes to start the car.

Pbm, I noticed in an older thread (I think about the new Hilux) that you said a turbo diesel option will be available for MY16 Tacoma. I'm wondering if Toyota is thinking this will be the new MPG King and is kind of planning on dropping the 4 cylinder anyway. I'm sure there would be more profit in a diesel for Toyota and the customer would probably be happier with the MPGs. So I guess only the only negative would be the $3500-$5500 (estimate) buy-in for the diesel option.

Anyone know (pbm) if there will be more interior colours? I love the redwood interior on the t4r and would nearly be sold if the new Taco Limited had it as an option. I really hope they do it right, the current limited was such a letdown when I drove it.
