We have an odyssey, two boys and a dog. And I have 3 trucks. All are inferior at family hauling to the minivan. It excels at all reasonable tasks. Even tows a decent amount. No brainer for 3+ kids. Even Malcolm Gladwell agrees. Keep the Tacoma and get a used or new minivan. They simply rule.

Sounds like you’re set with the 4Runner and passing down the Tacoma. I’d let them stick it out for a bit if or (when) it’s too uncomfortable start using the 4 runner and let your wife take the truck ? When the times right pass it down and get you a new whatever you want

For a growing family, GM 6500 TopKick or nothing.

Back in June when my 2nd gen got totalled and I was looking for another vehicle, it was down to a 4Runner or a Tacoma. After all the research, I was about to pull the trigger on a 4Runner but what stopped me was that I’m not married or have any kids, so I rarely have passengers with me besides the occasional person. The Tacoma just fit my lifestyle. If you have a family, an suv/minivan fits your lifestyle. It’s what you signed up for. If you wanted more flexibility, you wouldn’t have gotten married and had kids. There are pluses to having a wife/kids, having all of them comfortable in a Tacoma isn’t one of them.

I know there are people that refuse to get a minivan cause they aren’t cool looking, but if you have a family, that’s the most practical vehicle. Even some SUVs aren’t practical for a family, but some people just cringe at having to drive a minivan. But guess what, that’s what you signed up for. It’s not about you anymore once you get married and have kids…… Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk

The TopKick is cute but I think that I'd go with International. CXT 7300. Though I have no idea what I would do with it. Except terrorize every Prius I see.

If you want to keep a Toyota, look into a 2021 or earlier Tundra. They are available and everyone is looking at the new Tundra so there are probably some used ones for a good deal. I personally went to a Rubicon Gladiator. It has more room in the back seat, but it wouldn't be a good move with growing teens. The Tundra is a solid performer. I had a 2018 TRD sport that was good enough for carrying 4 adults comfortably. I just wanted to travel some of the places the local off road club likes to go so the Tacoma and the Tundra were out.

I would take a look at SUVs with 3 rows of seats unless you absolutely need a truck.
I had 3 small kids and we had an odyssey minivan back then. options for 3 rows in a SUV were much more limited then.
