NFL Trash Talkers Thread

It's significant but lame? Eat your cake but don't forget to wipe the icing off your chin. Thread title is trash talk and a weak schedule is fodder for it. The only 3 divisions worth anything are the afc south, nfc north, and nfc west. The Pats and Saints are very good but reap the benefits of weaker divisions and every other contender will have to run a gauntlet to secure home field for the title game or even secure a wild card berth. Not to mention the by that each team with the best record gets in the first round or the quality of opposition in the second. So yes, beat up on every team you can while you can and then beat up on everyone else to get the by then 3 more times and you're champs. Or, muddle through the season and start hitting on all cylinders in December. Both work but fans want home games and some teams are better positioned to get them.

Of course the benefits of being the first or second seed in the playoffs are huge. What would you have the Pats/Saints/Steelers/Ravens do? Throw games?

Like I said, the complaint is lame, schedule is what it is. It’s like complaining water is wet, the sun is bright.

Agreed, complaining about things you can't change is useless. Life's a bitch. But recognition of facts in order to account for them isn't complaining, it's a necessary part of determining the odds of an outcome, which is, like it or not, a fixture in today's nfl. Unless you consider all forms of betting lame in which case you'd be right but in the minority. Is it lame to keep track of who gets injured or traded? Who's hot and who's not? Is it lame to differentiate between fair weather teams and mudders? Dome or not? And yes, strength of schedule. Lame would be failing to account for these factors. The teams still have to play, it's not a paper gridiron, and head coaches can't afford to let their players get caught up in such distractions but it's the meat and potatoes of every odds maker and sports analyst alive.

Truth, adversity is part of the game. Week in, week out I tend to root for whoever faces more(aside from individual player preferences). I don't bet on games but as a fan I try to see the whole picture. If the refs skew the game I want to see a team persevere anyway. One thing I that most seems to overlook regarding the Pats success is that for so long they've been drafting late yet still finding and developing capable players. Schedule is one "thing" to talk about but there are plenty of others.

 

Colts Steelers has been entertaining, both teams playing hard. Colts got reamed on a clean hit on the punt but then forced a 3 and out and the Steelers get reamed on an uncatchable ball converting a third down then give up a big pass play to put the Colts in range. What you do after the bad calls is the game. Two challenges lost is two less time outs. Good grief, another lace job for Vinatieri. I guess the Colts screwed up last.
